How do you do that? Did you pound out the image and re-carve this or something else?

After thinking about it, I figured that's what you did. Pounding the at the coin would have left it distorted and really hard to work with.
Nice job by the way. These are pretty awesome.Β

Ironic how you put the soldier of a repressive dictatorship with the word Liberty.

Yes,that occured to me while carving it.
Collectors prefer the LIberty and date intact.
It sort of seemed ok with a stormtroper,as they are kind of cool, and not that scary, but a Nazi soldier wouldn't work.

Here in Canada it's illegal to "deface" a coin. No matter how cool it looks. Mind you it's never enforced.
Now do a nickel with a pilot from the rebel alliance.

I watched your videos and they are fascinating. Β I have some questions When you engrave is the tool a power tool or hand powered? And How do you polish off the face and still keep the lettering?

Most of what I'm doing is using an airgraver, like a tiny jackhammer.
I dont always remove the indian head, and just dive straight in,you might need the metal.
Β If i do,i carve away what I dont want, and grind with tiny burs,or hand metal scrapers.
Thanks for watching

The Bufalo nickel was minted from 1913 to 1937,so it's just whatever I have in a good condition. The later dates are more readily available.
Carving a design on a Buffalo nickel turns it into what's called a Hobo Nickel. It's the prefered coin for collectors.

Thanks
Carved into the coin with an airgarver,I use a Nikkon microscope to see what I'm doing.
A ton of videos of diffrent parts of the process.

π: 0 β©: 1
shaun750 In reply to alberach01 [2014-05-04 13:12:46 +0000 UTC]
Some people will tell you it is,but the way the US law reads,so long as you don't deface a coin to make it look like another coin.
One day I'll carve a dollar to look like a nickel, and see if they come get me.
