Description Going on 4 hours of sleep after the Drop to Zero show at the House of Blues last night, and decided to sketch out some more ideas for my Halo series.

Not really sure what I'm calling this, but for the past couple of days I have been wanting to create an addict of sorts for my next tragedy. I'm thinking of adding track marks all over the major veins in the body and maybe have syringes hanging from the halo. not sure yet though.

Well, Shawn, your skill is certainly continuing to improve. This piece very well formed anatomically

I LOVE the look of famine, and I use it frequently in my own pieces.

The legs and abdomen are rather large, but given the perspective, I suppose there's an excuse for them to be

The syringes would look cool, almost dreamcatcher-y.

You could even have the syringes protruding from the back, increasing spiny-ness. Or protruding from arms and such. Saw 2 comes to mind (but I'm really not a saw fan.)

Or if you wanted to zoom out on your being, you could almost have him under siege of an onslaught of launched syringes. I'm thinking like the Persians in 300, haha.

But that's all I have to say, and it looks pristine the way it is, anyway

I can't wait to see it on canvas

Thanks for the thoughts. I was thinking about the spinal region but haven't really solidified much yet.

Yeah. I've been constantly sketching out concepts for paintings. Tomorrow I get a solid block of paint time since it's my day off. Maybe I can finish the acrylic that I'm working on and start another.

I hope I don't run out of canvas anytime soon. I'm doing a 2' x 3' now, and I want to do a 2' x 4' shortly after, maybe for the painting after my next one.

I love painting large images

But it's after 2 am. Good indication that it's time for bed.

Good luck with your piece, and maybe I'll have my painting uploaded in a day. Or week. I don't know, we'll see.

I find sketching helps me out with the final product but at the same time it can be a dilemma because usually my sketch is better than what I recreate onto canvas. Hopefully this one will be different.

And I am looking forward to see how you have progressed in your painting with your next piece.

Thanks. I know what you mean about the transferring, but my ideas are generally sketched out quickly, so my sketches aren't super in quality. It's generally just an easier way to plan space and decide on a dimension (which takes longer than one would think, for me, at least.) After I sketch whatever I imagined up, I'll take some reference pictures or look at stock images for accuracy, and work from there

I also cheat and sketch on my canvas to get things placed on a bigger surface without distorting them (hopefully, anyway)

I painted for a few hours today. If I paint a bit more tonight, maybe I can finish.

But you should know how that is, you always figure out how to make something better, or want to change it, or just plainly screw something up, haha. So, it could be a few weeks, too xD

I usually only work on one canvas at a time, though, regardless of the fact that I have a ton of ideas.

I definitely shouldn't have taken a full-time summer job xD

I've been taking a lot of painting-in-progress pictures, but I don't like to post those until after I post my finished work. And I generally only publish to facebook and/or myspace.

It's definitely cool to see how far I've come since my first attempt with that master copy of Encompassing Cold, haha. I'm almost embarrassed to display that one now xD. I still have a ton of room for improvement though, so I look forward to learning

syringes around the halo may be laying it on a bit thick...just my opinion

The addict idea sounds very interesting, and it'd be cool to see syringes in the halo.

4 hours seems to be the right amount of sleep to let my mind wonder into darker ideals. Hopefully when I flesh it out onto canvas it won't suck to bad. My translations from sketch to canvas are horrendous

Lol. Ugliness is only an opinion. I like to see where my art ends up....unless in the trash, then don't take a picture

Nope. It's hanging on my wall above my wannabe abominable sculptures. But, because you're my favorite artist here, I'll take a picture.
