These days only northern Mounties still wear the traditional Mountie hat. Most RCMP officers in the rest of Canada dress like normal cops now. And only they only dress in the old red uniform for ceremonies.
The last time I have seen a Mountie in red was when Queen Elizabeth came to visit Stratford. Canadian Park Rangers for a long time had felt Stetson hats  but just recently the uniform change to ball caps.

We wear ball caps in the field where the traditional F44 is not practical. Research teams, search and rescue, etc. Many of the rookies are trying to put on ball caps in the public eye and the old timers are looking on this with disdain, since the F44 Stratton flat hat is the defining hallmark of the Ranger uniform. I am always glad to get under mine. People now days are getting lazier all the time...
