A piece for my current Art A-level exam.Experimental; being more loose with colour and just slapping it on randomly really, then inking the monster on top (i'm doing monster art this time round, woo!).
it was alot of fun, and i'm really pleased with the outcome. if you're wondering, this is quite big, possible A2, not sure. proper watercolour paper, with black felt tip (fineliners dont cut it here)
monster was not planned and was a 2 second design off the top of my head, so yes, he's plain, but like i said, this was EXPERIMENTAL, not meant to be amazing masterpiece.

Does it have eyes? I can't see the eyes. I really like the way you have done crosshatching in pen. How did you learn to do that?

um, well i'm not too sure, i suppose i learned from reading manga and seeing how other artists ink, and then when i did it on my monsters, i just went really crazy with the crosshatching, XD
and yeah, it has an eye socket, but its somewhat empty, with several pupils inside??......doesnt make sense......but there is something there..

Which mangas do you like to read?
Have you read the Spiderwick Chronicles? That has some good examples of line art and crosshatching.

no i havent but i've seen the artwork, it is really lovely, i love pen work, simple but effective
well i only really read my favourite series' at the moment, which includes 'Shaman king', 'Yugioh', 'Karakuridoji Ultimo' and '+Anima'
i mostly like shonen manga, the boys manga, i dont really like romance or life troubles, that just anoys me. fantasy is much more interesting

I bought the Spiderwick Chronicles books because I like the artwork. I also have a book called "The Field Guide to the Fantastic World around you", which has more Spiderwick artwork in it. I know its supposed to be meant for kids, but I like the artwork and the fantasy themes.
What is "+Anima" about?
Manga I have read are: Inu Yasha, Record of the Lodoss War, Warcraft manga: the sunwell trilogy, Beyond the Beyond, and Death Note. I like Shonen manga as well. I have been wanting to read some of Tezuka's mangas like the original Astro Boy ones, or Black Jack, but I can never find them in shops when I look.

i ordered the first 2 volumes of astro boy from a local bookstore. it was hard to get hold of, and black jack i havent seen anywhere, i probably need to order that in too.
manga by Hiroyuki Takei is fantastic in terms of artwork, its aimed at boys, but is also quite flowing and girly in places, really lovely to look at. i recommend both Shaman King and Karakuridoji Ultimo

(shaman king is his older series, his style is much smoother in Ultimo)
+Anima is great, i think. its about children who have anima powers, i.e. they can either grow wings, or tails, or claws etc, and its about this group of kids just trying to find acceptance in a world that dislikes the feared animal people.

I put in a request for Astro Boy and Black Jack mangas at my local library, because I know the library has some graphic novels. But I don't think they're going to get them in, because I've waited about 3 months now, and they haven't done anything about it, or put my request note on the noticeboard.
