I'm gonna try reeeeally hard not to snicker too much at the title.
So I stole this exercise/challenge from ! Here is the blank one: [link]
This time, it's Jonan! A ridiculously gaunt, stupidly arrogant necromancer, and one of three main protagonists in that RuneWriters story I keep posting stuff for.
Tareth's , Jonan's, and Severian's Rainbow challenges were all drawn one right after the other, and this was the last one I did. I expected that Jonan would be the easiest because, quite frankly, I adore drawing his face, but I actually ran into the most trouble on his (you guessed it) straight-on view, as I suddenly realised I have never drawn him from this angle and had no idea what his hair would even LOOK like from the front.
So this is a guess.
Upwards 3/4th is my personal favourite.
I wonder if I have ever explained that runewriters naturally get vibrantly-tipped hair, or if everyone has been assuming that all my magic-users dye their hair ridiculous colours?

The straight on view is my prefered.
His eyes look weird, as a living part of the face, it's hard to define.
Is he furious, trying to temper himself ? Then he have a strong will.
Is he surprised by something ? Then he's quick to react, with his right eye analysing.
Is he discussing with someone ? Then he's surely convincing.
Thus, he looks like the perfect "anti-hero", while that's not surprising (in my opinion) that you have never drawn him straight on, he's a necromancer he's typically this kind of person who avoid staring a your eyes
This "random deviation" makes me want to read your webcomic

Oh, man, this is such an awesome analysis, thank you! He could totally stare a person down, but you're right, I don't think he likes looking at others eye-to-eye. He's really tall, so he's more likely to look down at people.

I'm finally commenting!
Of all of the characters you did this meme with, I think Jonan is your strongest. You do have a great talent in your use of line and line quality and that is most excellently displayed here.
One critic I would give is the 3/4 upwards shot is a bit awkward with the neck. It either seems like it should be slimmed down a little bit near the jaw line or that we should be seeing a little more of the back shoulder/collar bone area. (As if it was turned more towards the front).
Your consistency through out these poses is most excellently done. I applaud you for it!

Love your characters! He looks so intense, and I love how you've simplified his complex features (if that makes any sense at all). His face has a lot going on and defined without being busy. Rock on!!

First off, I AM FOREVER ENVIOUS OF YOUR CONSISTENCY. You have a way of just... being consistent always. It's completely awesome! I would also like to back up *vert-is-ninja 's comment up there-- what I love most is how you're able to detail Jonan's face without going overboard. Great use of line :"D

Hahaha, I really don't post Jonan as much on DeviantArt, even though I draw him ALL. THE. TIME. It always surprises me when he is popular with anyone but me. XD

This is a neat exercise. I think I shall have to try it.
One bit of critique, for all three of the upwards 3/4 heads: the throat shouldn't go straight up to the chin like that. It should run up to a point farther back, and the chin then comes forward. Tareth's is the best-looking, but her throat is still rather thick/foward toward its top.
(Also the eyes in profile look almost frontal, but I'm assuming that's an intentional bit of stylisation.)
Other than that though, these are quite nice, and impressively consistent.

Eh magic users get weird things going on with hair- most of my magi are prematurely grey.
And yeah, I need to try this myself.

And this is a good point! Magic-users tend to get aesthetic weirdness in general. Prematurely grey makes a lot of sense -- magic is taxing, wears you out faster, I'd imagine.
