Just thought I'd let you know that while it took forever for me to actually get around and write it, Part 12 of my story Another Set of Eyes (Kylo Ren x Reader) draws inspiration from this piece.

While more blatantly graphic than anything we ever saw in the movie for sure, the general dark aesthetic of it is very much in keeping with the new, grittier look at warfare in the Star Wars universe that we got in The Force Awakens.

I thought so. For me the grittier aspect of war--particularly in the Tuanul Massacre, Battle of Takodana, and Hosnian Genocide--was one of the key defining features of TFA from a moviemaking standpoint. (Not to mention we actually got a sense that the Stormtroopers were actually competent fighters.) I think it was a very deliberate choice on JJ Abrams' part. While I do not think we'd ever see something this graphic in the actual movies, I DID definitely find myself thinking of things like Band of Brothers and Saving Private Ryan especially as we watched the Stormtroopers land on Jakku.
So yes, while I think this particular scene might not appear in a movie, I absolutely see it as in context with The Force Awakens, and something that could easily happen in universe. And that is a good thing.
