Would you believe that I started this with the pretence it would be happy, nice, easily excited Dekker? xD This almost makes me wish he was CE rather than CN so he could be an assassin... But eh, shadowdancer will have to do ;DI blame this on the recent unrest within my group of friends >.> We've been at each other's throats a little and no one seems to be getting on particularly well... though this evening when we met up to run around the local forest we just seemed to pretend nothing had ever happened... Probably not a wise move, but eh, it'll do for the time being.
I realised when I started this that I very rarely draw Dekker with his hood up (and remembered quickly it's because I have no idea how the material falls and it drives me mad), so tried it out anyway. And the face mask thing that isn't really part of his usual wardrobe (he likes his smirks and grins to be visible ;3) was inspired by where I've recently started playing the Neverwinter MMO, and I have a Dekker!rogue as my character who recently got a mask to wear. I've had the game 48 hours. And am level 20 (out of 60) already. Ehhhh, I actually kinda like it (more so than the other online DnD game that I also rather liked), though I always play solo. Normally rogue characters are a pain in the butt to play on your own, because they're not exactly front line fighters, but with my new generic cleric companion, I can slaughter most things xD Only times I've died so far are from lag and dropping out, and the other time I have no idea what happened, but I was stuck in a mass melee of spawning enemies where I couldn't even see my character any longer >.>
But yah, have a picture than turned from happy to dark in a matter of minutes after starting xD Ooooops ;D Suppose it's been a while since I drew dark!Dekker or anything particularly dark or creepy.
Though when you remember that he's 3'1" short, maybe it's just cute rather than creepy xD Srsly, he's not that dark at all. I mean, look at him.
He's a ball of... uh, (slightly dangerous) fun. xD It's all a façade of blacked eyes, painted nails and reasonable intimidation skills ;D

You know what?
I think Dekker would make an ostensibly great assassin - and I bet he would enjoy play that role, theatrically 
But I don't think it would suit him. As in, it's role - just that - fun scaring people, exiting challenges.
But it's not who he is.
When I look at shadowdancers though, it suits him perfectly.
Hiding, being a trickster, performing. The potential for pranks that shadow-walk allows XD.
The way I see him is that the role he chooses is his way of finding (well, making)
a place for himself in the world - proving himself. But then it is also him mask,
his facade, and the theatrics are his way of protecting himself.
And that's what a shadow-dancers abilities primarily do.
Concealment, distraction, evasion. Spin, run, a blade in the back and then dissapear.
Sometimes I feel that Dekker's child-state is him hiding from the harsher aspects of the world
because his mind is not able to process it - i.e. it's a coping mechanism.
So a prestige class which is about being intangible, and a little bit mystical
in a way that doesn't make sense to other magic users
- well, it's like escapism in a box. It's perfect for him .

It's somewhat rewarding and satisfying to read something like this when you're pretty much spot on ;D Everything you say is definitely in the right direction, and makes me think about how to develop him further ;3 The emphasis on fun/amusement all for himself is something I like to focus on C:

No, this is totally creepy (until you remember that he's three feet tall and is wearing black nail polish). I like the mask. Keeps his lovely gleaming smile from catching the light and giving him away, or something like that
