How to Draw : Disney Style

I realized after I'd completed and uploaded the first two that they were only head shots, and didn't really help you draw an entire cub at once -.-

So viola! Brandy-new, two-in-one, how to draw a Lion King Cub, Pridelander's Edition!

Sorry it's so big, but I like it like this ^_^;

PLEASE NOTE: While, yes, these cubs are colored a bit like Simba and Nala, it is not meant to be them. These tutorials will only be guides on how to draw certain things in a Disney-like fashion, and will rarely if ever be a single, pointed-out character. Thank you.

Haha, funny that you should comment on that - I was just viewing this piece a week or so ago and was considering storing the deviation, because this style of shading can sort of stunt one's progress as an artist. It doesn't really teach you how to play with the color balance of highlights and shadows, you know? I mean it's okay as a fast trick for small things, but be sure to keep learning and growing, too! Once you get the hang of a good shading style, it can become one of the most fun parts, in my opinion.

Yeah, I'm just talking for my comic For the other drawings, I'll continue to play with shadows!

Great Tutorial! Awesome for drawing the bodies, even the heads are challenging and my TLK style just plain stinks but thanks to this it should help brush it up. ^^

Pridelander Lion cub bodies xD
What about the outlanders? Do they have different anatomy?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SherokuTakari In reply to Alkathras [2011-02-09 15:17:35 +0000 UTC]

Why yes they do :3 I'm planning on making one for Outlanders, as well ones for adults from both Prides, when I have to time

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Alkathras In reply to SherokuTakari [2011-02-09 17:31:41 +0000 UTC]

They do? O.o I'd love to see an outlander cub tutorial^^
I know that pridelanders and outlanders are kinda different (outlanders got darker colours, a different nose...) but I never thought about them having different body shapes...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SherokuTakari In reply to Alkathras [2011-02-10 02:23:49 +0000 UTC]

Yep :3 they're pretty small differences, though. They're leaner, scruffier, and the females tend to have face fluff as well as the males. The males also have elbow fluff ^^

tardis101 [2010-09-29 19:17:44 +0000 UTC]

hehe I like this! Another way of shading is to do a random colour (say red for example) on a new layer and then set that layer to multiply

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SherokuTakari In reply to tardis101 [2010-09-29 23:13:49 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! And really? I've never heard of that :3

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

tardis101 In reply to SherokuTakari [2010-09-30 06:09:37 +0000 UTC]

:3 you should try it, it makes shading look a bit less flat xD

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SherokuTakari In reply to tardis101 [2010-09-30 16:41:08 +0000 UTC]

Well my shading style has (in my opinion) improved since these were made, but I think I wanna try that multiply thing. You never know what works better if you never experiment, right? :3

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

tardis101 In reply to SherokuTakari [2010-09-30 18:32:07 +0000 UTC]

exactly!!! Ive recently tried a new shading style by getting the lassoo tool and adjusting the feather option, and then selecting where I want to shade Im always trying new things, and so im always improving I get so encouraged when I look back at my work from a year ago and see how much I have improved, and it encourages me to try new things so that I can feel the same way this time next year xD

SherokuTakari In reply to tardis101 [2010-10-03 23:15:38 +0000 UTC]

That all sounds awesome, but I'm new to Photoshop (the above was done in GIMP Portable). On the plus side, that means everything I try is an "experiment" XD

What? What's wrong with Comic Sans? It's what nearly EVERY Manga uses, and it's easy to read :/
