huh. When I first started playing minecraft, I dug myself a burrow into the side of a mountain. However, interestingly enough, my home was on a second floor. I just dug in and up.XD

I did that too! 
I didn't know about crafting much yet so I had to wait through one night. Cause I couldn't see anything. I just let the game run and came back when it was morning. I didn't know about torches or coal. Then I learned there should be monsters there. But I was on Peaceful so no surprises first time. Just one silly house dug through a hill. Hobbit style. ^__^

I did it because I love grey foxes and I wanted to make a home akin to one.XD I'm such an anthro! Though later I actually made a tree house. That certainly was interesting... Especially when I started growing new trees they ended up THROUGH the bottom of the house...

Nah, just kidding XD So... it was night and I needed somewhere to stay. I decided it'd be cool to be able to see all the monsters outside. Idea! Why don't I build a house entirely out of glass panes and blocks? I almost had the walls up and I was soon to start on the roof. One surprise creeper later everything was broken and I had no food, 3 hearts, and all the hunger. I'd forgotten to pack food. I ran quickly to the nearest tree but I couldn't defend myself against the stupid skeleton.

Hehe, oh those romantic times when we were too inexperienced to just carry a bed and use it whenever the stars appear. 
When I knew the game better, I tried to make a world of eternal night. Hard game, time set to 3 am, time stopped. I even managed to make several forts and a mine shaft between them. The wheat took torches to grow. Monsters would pile up as they never disappeared. It was crazy to hide in your cave-house and realize you can't just wait for the sun, you have to take some actions.
