X3 Thanks, I want to...Then times all NOPE. Then there's always the problem of my ideas never having a complete beginning, middle and end. I do hope to do a wonderland comic though. I just have to finish designing the rest of the characters. >D

xDDDD LOL.
I understand xDD
I have big ideas, too, but nailing down the fine details is such hard work! And I can't draw where I need to, either, so it's like, I hope I still have the love and devotion to my stories by the time everything evens out x'DD

Seriously, though. I do like your comics. They have a good pace and they're a joy ^^ So even if you don't, I'll be looking out xD <3
Wonderland is fun, if you're going to do that, I wish you luck, man!

Shes-t In reply to Tepperzart [2011-09-12 21:41:10 +0000 UTC]

The fine details are never something I can plan out. Those kinds of things usually come more on the spot and if they don't fine details never happen for me...>.>

One of the biggest things I hate about comics is planning out the pages and having to draw everything in different angles and backgrounds....@.@

Speaking of problems with comics I don't know if you've read my Epic Failure comic but with that one the main reason I haven't continued it is because since I was making everything up as I went all the characters personalities are completely different now....XD So the sorry excuse for a storyish-line it had going doesn't fit anymore. Though I'd still eventually like to give it a kinda ending.

Thanks! I really hope the Wonderland idea works out. I'm excited for it. X3

AH! SAME HERE!
If I try to push it, then I end up never being truly satisfied! So they must come on the spot, or else they don't come xDDD Lol I didn't know anyone else had this xDD

I know .____. It takes so much time.
I mean, I love creating new, wonderful things, sure... but I wish I could just draw people's faces and write a thing or two and make amazing things that way OTL Lol. It's hard planning things and making them just... right. It's only later that I go, "Oh, I could have done it that way!" ahaha. And buildings and stuff are so hard, they make me nervous;;;; Wish I didn't have to learn them to get my point across (I always sucked at math and geometry), but I guess no one can see things the way I can so one day maybe it'll be worth it? If I ever take a deep breath and practice those scary things xD

No, I don't think I have seen it. .__.
Link me?
Maybe I can help, I can be a really good wall for ideas sometimes ^^ But now I'm really interested in your story anyways ^^
It's cool when characters develop, but sometimes that can be a pain.
I have a problem recently, where I have plots.... that I don't have characters for. And I have characters... that I don't have plots for OTL
Like, in some of my main stories that I really want to do, I just can't seem to come up with likable people in it.

I hope it does, too!
I'm thinking of doing a story based off a story myself (not wonderland, though -- Wizard of Oz) and I'm excited, too, so good luck! It can be bunches of fun taking something and twisting it to create something new ^^

Pushing jokes/ideas never works and usually you end up loosing interest halfway through.

XD Yes. That is how I would much rather make my comics. Which is why I tend to make those really long one shots where all the panels are more or less the same. Less work is always a good thing >D lol I have those epiphanies all the time after I can't really do much about it. Or are too lazy to do anything about it.

I dunno if buildings are /hard/ (though they're certainly not easy) they're just really really tedious. I love putting detail into characters. But when it comes to background the more detail I put into it the more annoyed I get with having to do it. (despite that it keeps looking better the more detail I put into it) Perspective and foreshortening are a pain in the ass....I'll admit the day I practice drawing buildings will likely be the day I end up eating my sketchbook in frustration.

[link] Here's the link to the first one. They should all link to the next one in the author comments. They're just stupid comic pages I did while bored in class so they're horrible sketchbook quality cause I suck at pencil drawing now. It contains the characters I typically use in my random one shot comic strips.

I actually more or less know how I would like to continue it and 'end' it. It's just a matter of actually doing it. I keep finding other projects I want to do more...>.>; and now that they characters personalities are quite different it's harder to find the motivation. But I love the way they're developing so it's all good.

lol If you need any help creating characters just let me know. I love creating them. The trick I use to make fun characters is to give them one stupid quirk that I can use to exploit them. >D All my characters end up being really stupid in one way or another.

That sounds awesome. Is it going to be a parody or a more close to the actual story kind of comic? Good luck to you too! I hope you do create it; I'd like to read it.

And...I'm sorry I've just written an essay...I've had a lot of sugar today...>.>;

Yeah, that's very true! And then what once was fun turns only into a headache, and that's not how it should be ): It's disheartening!

Aha, yes! xD You know what I also found? Some pre-made panels, so that way planning is less of a pain in the ass. I have yet to use them, but I've heard they're useful.
And right! xD That's one thing that kind of frightens me when I'm planning. What if I draw out the whole story, and then think, "Augggh I could have done this better if I'd only" later? x'D Aw, man.

You don't think so? I guess tedious is the right word. But even though I want to make the structure of things, I really don't like putting all that effort into the background, because I feel they are really overlooked. That's why the settings I want to make are different then the usual -- so that way they'll pull one in, they wouldn't want to overlook it. That's my goal, anyway.
Yeah and omg perspective it kills me slowly in my sleep .__.
Aw, man; maybe if we keep practicing I can enjoy it more? Er... I have no idea xD Ahaha

WAT? omg. /stalks and goes to check it out

xDD That's awesome! at least if they're put on the back-burner it's not because you've lost steam ^^ Aha But I can relate >> I have like.... 11 ideas I'd like to make into individual comics if I can.... o_o

LOL.
Hoe clever!
I never thought about them that way but I like that xDDD I might definitely use that to invent someone!
Recently, though, I don't know -- I have some characters that have forms and not personalities, and I have some characters which have personalities and not forms, and then I simply have "role" characters that need life of their own. It seems difficult, but maybe it's not or doesn't have to be...? I used to be so good at randomly creating characters xD
I might just end up asking you sometime ^^

Awa, thanks--! Well... both...? Maybe xD I'm not sure. It's like... it's going to kind of be inspired from the Wizard of Oz, and have the same general plot... but the characters are going to be much, much different xD And that's really what makes the difference.

What? Oh, no, don't even go there! It wasn't a pain to read xDDD I can write essays, too -- haha, that's just what happens in interesting conversation! ^^

Shes-t In reply to Tepperzart [2011-09-13 18:08:43 +0000 UTC]

lol That's cool. They sound like they could be useful and hindersome at other times when you just can't find one to fit what you want to do. I make all my comic panels in a program called Manga Studio. It has specific tools for making panels so they're really easy and make really nice looking frames.

Well there's always risks when you make a story. I find that if you play it in your head for a while (writing down various points -or all of it- so you remember) and get the main things down before you even start it reduces the risk of you getting an idea that would have been awesome if only you could have changed something earlier in the story. Also, no one ever completely loves everything they do. lol I know I don't at least. And even if there's that one picture you can't believe you did because it's just so friking amazing...Give it a few months-a year and you won't understand why you thought that was so great. So I don't think you need to worry about those thoughts cause it's likely to happen anyway. As long as the dialogue flows and the pictures are readable you'll be doing far better than many, many others.

Well buildings are essentially just a whole lot of box shapes. Its the details on it that make it look like a building. Though I'm definitely not trying to undermined it; they certainly aren't easy.

I agree, I wish backgrounds didn't have to exist. I really like the more abstract backgrounds that some people make. They look so cool and easy to create. Then I try and make something like it and totally fail. Abstract just always seems to reject me. >C

Haha, perspective is the asshole of drawing. It hates us all. We might enjoy it more if we keep practicing. Practicing makes us better at something and one usually enjoys what they're better at more. So it's possible. XD

lol XD I re-read them and now I want to continue them again...though I'll likely do the rest on the computer...the thought of having to do them in my sketchbook pains me...YOU SHOULD. You could do a whole bunch of one shot things like I do to get you more ready to do a longer comic. And the one shots would also introduce your characters.

XD You should. It makes them more hilarious to work with/read about and it seems to be pretty good at keeping them away from becoming Mary Sue characters. >D

I have characters like that too. As long as you can keep track of them it's not that difficult. Just ask away! I'll see what I can come up with.

>D Sounds similar to my Wonderland idea. Same general plot, technically the same characters, only the characters will have different personalities and dialogue. Sounds like it's going to be lots of fun. >D

lol Very true. I just write and suddenly...essay. I wish that happened in actual essays....B|

What, really? I've heard of that program, but I didn't know it had useful things like that +A+ Sometimes I make rough drafts on paper and then I do what I can on photoshop, but it's not that easy.;; Panel arranging can be hard sometimes, though. It's an art I wish I knew how to work on more.

AHAHA. You know, that's true xD The last part made me chuckle, but it's true xDDDD

OTL Making structures. A part of me just wants to.... scribble and call it a house, on a lopsided perspective. That's not so good xD I lack discipline xD
You know what's funny, is I can only do abstract when I'm not trying xDD And not abstract -- anything, sometimes. Like, if I'm just messing around with no real idea, it turns out okay -- but if I sit down and go, "I'd like to ___" then it doesn't really work xD Actually, that's how it can be with a lot of things. Don't get me wrong, sometimes I can create magic, but then other times, it's like, "This really isn't what I was going for..." For instance, coloring methods. Sure, I can color well when I don't think about it -- but when I actually try to focus, it turns out all wrong. That's why it's hard for me to get the basics of things... it trips me up uu; I really like my intuition, but sometimes it gets in the way believe it or not xD I'm trying to find a way around that.

Indeed, I've only met one person that loves perspective xDD I didn't get it at all xD
"Practicing makes us better at something and one usually enjoys what they're better at more."
Wise words ^^

Yes, you should want to continue them! Ahaha I'm looking forward to it! xD <3333 That and your Wonderland one! ^^ <3333!
And

Hm....
You're right..... actually... that's a good idea.....I really like that .____.

Ask away, hm? Well, there are these two characters in particular that I'm having a lot of trouble with right now -- One's name is Van, and the other's name is Tracy. Van is this guy who's really rich and powerful and kind of a gangster -- but I have no idea why or how, because he's kind of an idiot x'D And I don't really know what he looks like besides the fact he has black hair. And Tracy is a guy that could look feminine from his slender body and long hair -- but he has no personality yet ;;; >> Maybe it would be funny if he was straight and all, but I just have no idea how to pin down their relationship.
It's hard for these two because their story takes place in modern day, and I feel a little limited on that xD

Yes! It is like that! ^^ Except.... weirder xDDD Ahahaha. Thinking about it makes me really happy ^^
like... For instance, "Dorthy" is going to be a bitch.
But the problem I've been having is that this story is of the ones with "roles" and not "personalities." So that's a problem xD Like... okay, "Dorthy's" a bitch, but how and why and how is she relate-able? Ect. I've been trying to brainstorm but I haven't had any inspiration.

I KNOW. LOL. TELL ME ABOUT IT.
Works cited: My brain, bitch. >|

It's a truly amazing tool. I was all 'omg' when I figured out how to use it. Makes comic life so much easier. But it's definitely an art. Getting the right set up can often make or break the page.

Oh god...that's pretty much what I end up doing...otherwise I avoid buildings. Me and straight things that need rulers don't get along. lol Yeah, I'm pretty sure I think way too much to get abstract right....I have a problem with everything needing to have some sort of shape. Sometimes I get lucky, but usually I don't...>.>; lol

lol You have to be able to let your character be what they become and not be obsessed with them being good/liked at/by everything/one and okay with them looking like a fool. I personally don't understand why people want to make a perfect character. They're so boring, and difficult to make dialogue/scenarios for.

Hm. I'll have to give it some thought. What's story behind these two? (I'm assuming they're in the same story) Do you have any hopes for the direction they take? (ex. Do you want one to have a good/bad sense of humour, be badass/clumsy/awkward/cool...etc. What's their part in the story? If you know this you can give them a basic personality that fits that position. (if ones a librarian, maybe they're a bit of a bookworm/ or if they're an assassin, maybe they don't take shit from no one...etc) After you've figured that out, if you do what I do, try and think of some amusing quirk that doesn't really fit their character/position. (The librarian's loud and obnoxious or treats his job like he's on some Mission Impossible movie and the assassin has issues with blood touching him, or is really clumsy.)

lol Does Dorothy have to be all that relate-able? Maybe you could twist it and make the witch more relate-able. Or a random character that travels with "Dorothy". Although, going in that direction you'd have to make sure she's not annoying. Cause there's nothing worse than an annoying main character. Maybe she's a bitch but is still humourous. So in other words, she's a bitch in a trolling way. Like she's making fun of the entire "Dorothy" character. I'm sure you'll figure it out. Characters have a tendency to develop themselves when you let them do what they want.

Yep, same here |D
Even when I use a ruler nothing comes out straight ( what the hell's with that xDD ).
I agree. Pace is so important.

"You have to be able to let your character be what they become and not be obsessed with them being good/liked at/by everything/one and okay with them looking like a fool. I personally don't understand why people want to make a perfect character. They're so boring, and difficult to make dialogue/scenarios for."
Hm? Oh my, do I come off that way?
You did say "you" but it was probably just the general "you"? Because, to tell the truth, even though I want my characters relate-able -- I think you misunderstand me xD I didn't mean relate-able to others -- When I said that, I didn't mean to come off as wanting to ass-kiss to whoever reads my work. I just meant it as.... I don't know... I want them to be real people. Relate-able in that sense.
I really do like putting opposites together. Whenever I create new things, that's one of the first things I look for. It really does make things very fun! ^^ And it lets me enjoy things because I get to be mischievous >D eheheheh

Ahahahahaaaa xD Those do sound like characters you'd create!! ^^ Ahahahaha. Thank you for the words, they really do give me inspiration, and help the juices flowing xDD I haven't talked to anyone who could do that in a while xDDD
Seriously, though, these are all really interesting questions and prompts... I'll think about them and get back to you really soon! ^^ I think I want to take some notes.... >>
And as for the story, it is quite some story and you'll definitely learn about it sometime soon ^^

Oh, the witches are relate-able in their own way... well, except for "Glenda" she's just kind of... xD
A troll! I never really thought about that. I like that direction. Because I did want her to stand on her own, but I didn't want her to just be mean for no reason... it would make more sense if she got satisfaction out of it xD Another troll character... oh gosh. That's exciting. It makes me want to draw.
And I agree xD I have had characters before who did things entirely out of character because they took on personalities of their own xD It's rather fascinating to watch and take part in!

>.> Ah sorry, lol, I meant it in the general 'you' way. I wasn't referring to your characters at all. I don't know nearly enough about any of your characters to make any sort of assumption as to what direction you're going. lol Sometimes I have a bad habit of wording something wrong even though it makes perfect sense in my head. I just said those things as a 'thing to think about'. Sometimes I hate how 'you' can be understood in two different ways....Stupid English...B|

lol I understand what you mean by relate-able. Yeah, characters are definitely more effective if they feel like real people. Also, making a character that can be relate-able to others doesn't mean you're 'ass-kissing' the readers. LOL XD A relate-able character and a character that feels like a real person are essentially the same thing.

XD Glad I could inspire you. lol I'll admit, I kinda want to make those characters now...
>D Awesome, I await your reply. Hopefully I can help. lol ho, I'm excited to hear this story now.

Troll characters are so very much fun. I enjoy this possibility. Watching characters develop on their own is like watching a movie. And if you think about it, technically they haven't done anything out of character because that's just the way they're developing. >D

Tepperzart In reply to Shes-t [2011-09-14 02:03:08 +0000 UTC]

Oh! Good! I understand! ^^ I have trouble with phrasing itself. Words can be so tricky.
Sometimes I "playfully" suggest that everyone should communicate with grunts and pointing. LOL.
<< >>
I'm just kidding, of course xD, but it really would make people easier to read xDDD

And you're right, I think about that sometimes, too. I don't really know what it is about Mary-sues that people like, but I guess that's part of the process of growing up xD

Oh gosh, I didn't mean it that way xDD You're right in saying that English is a confusing language. All I meant about ass-kissing is making a character with no personality that way they can't be hated. Because I've heard about that and it doesn't really work unless it's for kids programs x'D I think it's a lot cooler when people have personalities. That's what makes them feel real.

Ahahaha xDDD Make them, man. They sound pretty hysterical.
Definitely! There's no doubt I'll probably be stuck again, so thanks for offering your hand ^^
And are you interested? Good! xDD 'Cause it's very interesting +A+ (lol!)

LOL YOU SAID IT. I even have a troll character that I didn't even realize was a troll until recently xDDD The realization was one of my better moments xDDD Ahahaha! And an interesting concept! When you think about it, that's very true. It makes me want to think about the psyche of the characters more. xD I have a hard time when I describe my characters, sometimes, because they can sometimes be contradictory, just like people xD

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Shes-t In reply to Tepperzart [2011-09-14 15:43:21 +0000 UTC]

XD XD Haha, people should just communicate with grunts and pointing. Some people would make so much more sense. lol

This conversation is making me think of one of my friends OCs. This friend claims to hate Mary Sues as much as I do but everyone of her characters is one....though she doesn't seem to think so. One of her characters is something like part mermaid, dragon, angel, unicorn, human, and probably a whole bunch of other random 'mystical' things. And of course she looks completely human. Oh and she's a princess with powerful magic who is loved by her people. B| I'm pretty sure I actually head-desked when she told me about her. But since she's a 'work-a-holic' or whatever it apparently gives her a flaw and thus makes her not a Mary-Sue. Unfortunately, this friend takes even the smallest bit of criticism like a personal attack to her life so I'm still trying to figure out how to gently convince her what's happening to her character.

lol I think it would be harder to make a character without a personality than with one. Sometimes I'm not sure if it laziness or a different kind of talent to be able to make a character without a personality. XD

XD Perhaps I shall. >D
No problem, I like helping where I can. lol That's good, I like interesting things. XD

lol I know what you mean, and sometimes there's just so much depth to a character that there's too much to tell someone in order to really get a sense of who the character is.

LOL YES.
...I laugh but I would probably be one of those people B|
(lol)

WHAT. PEOPLE LIKE THAT EXIST? WOW, COOL---! CAN SHE FIGHT THINGS WITH HER MAGICAL POWERS, TOO? THIS PRINCESS SOUNDS INCREDIBLE AND COMPLETELY ORIGINAL, I REALLY LOOK UP TO HER ALREADY WITHOUT EVEN KNOWING HER. EVEN HER FLAWS CAN BE CONSIDERED GOOD ASPECTS ABOUT HER OWAAAHHHHH
....xDDD
I have a friend like that, too >I She had such Mary-sue characters... I just kind of ignored it and she eventually realized how lame they were x'''D I don't really know how to confront those types of situations myself -- I mean, cause it's like, "It's not really my place to tell you how to run your business" type of thing. And if they take everything as a huge hit to their pride... it's kind of blocking. So I guess there's really not much to do about it? At least for now.

You know, I think it could be horrifyingly easy x'DD
I love seeing what I can come up with for my characters, it's exciting. And I really love making dialogue. So I mean, if they're not different, then there's no point. I even have this one robot character that was built to be a mindless weapon -- and he turned out to have the most gentle and kind personality ever. xDD Unfortunately for him ._.

AND YES THAT OTL
FINALLY SOMEONE WHO UNDERSTANDS THIS.
IT'S LIKE, "I KNOW YOU DON'T GET IT, AND I CAN'T EXPLAIN IT TO YOU, BUT THERE'S A REALLY GOOD REASON FOR ___ AND IT MAKES PERFECT SENSE."

XD The way I explain things...me too...me too...lol

I KNOW RIGHT. OF COURSE SHE CAN FIGHT THINGS WITH HER POWERS, SHE'S A MARY SUE.

lol Yeah, it's unfortunate. I keep hoping she'll eventually see it and be all "Oh god what have I done..." Though I will admit, as much as I want to head-desk when she tells me about her characters it does give me a bit to laugh about...OTL I'm a horrible person....XD

X3 I really love writing dialogue too. And that's what I find too, even my characters that don't seem to have much of a personality, really do. lol The poor guy. Have I seen this character? You should link me if you have a picture of him posted. >D

XD XD There are some situations in comics that I do where I feel like I should explain why they are doing various things...lol
