I will be as polite as possible with my critique.

You have no comprehension of composition, especially in the style of Japanese tattoo. You have no understanding of the importance of the background element/ elements. You have peonies floating on water (peonies are dry land plants), spirals of I dont know what floating around the page... it doesn't make any sence at all. You have bastardized an art style that has undergone over 200 years of developemnet and explicitly shown that you have done nothing to study it. A word to the wise, show some respect for the culture you are trying to represent in your art. The least you could do is familiarize yourself with the purpose of the images, the characters, and the stories that they tell.

Study. Then practise. Then try again.

Honesty is the only way that anyone can improve. I appreciate that you were able to consider that. It is always difficult for me to approach old drawings as well.

Wow that looks very authentic, right down to the circles and the flowers. A very well done piece of art.

.. i replied but Im not sure it sent... ermm...
so.. take two!

I used a thickgrained Clairefontaine paper, 12X 17 inches
and a watercolor/ ink mixture.. and waterproof ink for the outlines
it took 3 days, mostly working at night...

now with the watercolor ink mixture, do you mix regular watercolor with india ink or do you do somethin else? Where do you buy your paper at? I cant find it at [link] or [link]

the paper you can buy at any regular art store, just make sure that its thick, otherwise it will absorb your waters and inks and leave you with a drab painting and it will get a sort of.. wavy texture.

Oh, for the watercolors, find the liquid tubed ones.. they have much easier to work with and you can get way denser colors.. I put a bit of black on a pallet and put a couple drops of black india ink to make it more liquidy, but not grey..
