Lol, I'd hate to admit it. But they tend to blend into each other in my head. Just so I am clear Aztec were the ones who built over the old Inca empire correct?

Haha, sorry, but not really.
-AztecsΒ (popularly called that, even though their real name isΒ Mexicas) were the empire that the spaniards encountered in the center of Mexico. Their capital, Tenochtitlan, is today's Mexico City, capital of Mexico.Β
-Mayans were in the south eastern area of Mexico and other countries from Central America like Guatemala and Belice, though Mayans are a generalization and were in reality many different city-states spanning over a long period of time, rather than a single empire.
-Incas were in South America (Peru, Colombia, etc) and have nothing to do with mesoamerican cultures at all (Mesoamerica=Mexico & Central America).
Don't worry, to most people "aztecs" and mayans tend to blend because of how pop culture portrays them, but the truth is that, in Mexico alone, hundreds of different cultures flourished before the conquest and many of them remain today (like nahuas, zapotecs, mixtecs, mayans, otomies, mixes, zoques, purepechas, etc). They all shared similarities which led to the use of the term "Mesoamerica" to refer to all of them together; but at the same time they're all unique and different, so with a little bit of reading it becomes quite easy to tell them appart.

Exactly!
It's usually through stereotypes that the true diversity of original cultures becomes invisible.
Hahaha, yeah, schools have several problems when they can't make their students interested in something.Β

I know, its blankly starring at the board writing notes. I only had 1 teacher that made school interesting. But that was 6th grade and he is no longer a teacher.
