July Bi-Weekly Challenge

"Submit a completed art piece that reflects your OCs personality! It can be something symbolic or be a scene of them doing something typical for them! Then include 5+ songs in the image description that you feel fits them~ (These can be links to existing songs, or you can sing them yourself!)"

Wahh so I finally managed to finish a bi-weekly challenge lol, after the flop that was the HP AU one I never completed ;; This one was actually meant to be a collab between me and Tashea but due to her going on vacation that changed and I kinda had to think of something else in three weeks. Quite the challenge! I'll be honest and confess I'm not used to doing completed pieces with backgrounds, so this was quite hard for me but overall I'm happy with the results!

My Explanation:

Okay, so the idea was to base this on Angeline's personality. Angeline is quite a complex person and the whole idea of her is that her personality is not black and white. It's very much two different people that cross over each other constantly given there is the Angeline who grew up amongst Victorian humans with strict ettiquette and manner, unable to express herself and be completely honest, and there is the Banshee Angeline, who is darker. It is the side of her that is filled with rage and bitterness and a darkness she has held back her entire life building up from her frustrations of her 'human' and isolated life. Due to this, the way I have depicted her in this is two sides of the same face to represent the two halves of her personality that hide behind the same poker face.

The 'Cracks' that cover the entire piece represent basically the problems and glitches she has come across since leaving Ireland that had basically made the line between her two sides harder to see, and have caused them to become more obvious. This is both certain people and things combined who have cracked her glamour and managed to bring out the side of her that normally is never allowed to be seen. The 'Cracks' are also similar to a spiderweb, because though these issues are things that disrupt or expose her other self, they are also things that have caused her to become tangled, caught up in her own dual sides. At the moment she is in a state where she is finding it difficult to seperate 'Human' Angeline with 'Banshee' Angeline, and is struggling to live as both, having never done so before in her life. A lot of the time she feels confused and ensnared in an invisible trap, unable to find her wings and break free.

The flowers in the 'Human' side represent her family; the Earth Fae that raised her, and their fleeting fragility due to the life they created for her and the lie they fabricated now crumbling and withering away. She is no longer as naive as she was, and so all that they taught her is slowly disappearing as her prospective changes. Rather than existing purely as the flower she was, new seeds have been planted, and she is slowly growing and changing with them. As such the old flowers have withered away and wilted, their petals tossed in the breeze like dandelion seeds. They are the colour of blood to represent all the pain and scars she gained from her upbringing and time with them.

The bubbles on the 'Banshee' side are how I envision her spirits to look; her ghosts and ethereal energy that surround her. The red lines represent the lives with connect her to them as she foresees their last moments, and feels their pain as her own, creating a bond in the afterlife that carries the dead to her, and allows them to serve under her will. These represent loyalty she has and hopes to gain from others, as well as the new relationships with new souls, living and dead alike, she has made since leaving home, and how she is now branching out to finally reach out towards others.

This is the playlist I have devised for Angeline based on her different sides. I had a hard choice choosing just a couple given that I tend to listen by the album and have simply picked a handful I feel suit her best, or at least suit the feelings and emotions that suit her. You're free to make your own judgement on whether they suit or not, but these tend to be the kinds of songs I listen to when I'm drawing her.
