"Grace, your gay stallion is seducing my horses again," Octavia complained.

Grace looked up from where she was polishing Warrior's wargame tack, out the stable window where he was enthusiastically grooming Destiny's neck and shoulders. "Oh yeah, he's been all over Destiny this week. Aren't they cute?"

Warrior liked mares just fine, but he had always had a preference for geldings and other stallions. It was a preference that had gotten him kicked in the face more than once by stallions who mistook his affections for rivalry, but that never seemed to deter him.

Grace couldn't be more pleased, honestly. Nothing fit her aesthetic like riding a massive, hunky gay stallion into battle. One of these days she should try braiding him with rainbow ribbons...

"Well yeah, but that's not the point," Octavia said, plopping herself down on the end of the saw-horse Grace was balancing Warrior's heavy saddle on. "They like him more than the girls now. If he turns them all gay, what will I do when I put them up for stud?"

"I think the point is well past moot for Destiny," Grace remarked dryly. Not that Warrior seemed to care whether his male love interests were fertile or not. He'd spent a long time flirting outrageously in Destiny's direction, and Destiny for his part seemed to like getting all the attention, and usually gravitated right over to his new beau every time he was turned out with the stallions.

"Maxxi loves him too," Octavia pointed out. "And your brother's weird mutant horsebull was all over him last week. I had to pull them apart before they wrecked the fence, it wasn't pretty."

Grace snorted loudly, causing Octavia to scowl at her. "They aren't all fans. Lucy bit him really hard last time I saw him get too friendly," she pointed out quickly.

"Lucy bites everyone I put him out with," Octavia grumbled. "I'm frankly nervous about leasing him for live covers, I don't want to end up with someone else's mare gored to death in my stable."

"He's too short to reach most of them," Grace said, and received a pointed glare for her effort.

She hefted up the saddle and placed it out of the way so she could lean in close to Octavia, crossing her arms and resting against the saw-horse. "If you're that worried about my wild stallion seducing your menfolk, I'll give you a free breeding from him to any of your mares next season."

"Oooh, a draft Arabian would be amazing," Octavia said, eyes going dreamy, and Grace could practically see the punnet squares dancing over her head.

They both went quiet for a moment, and watched the pasture outside. Warrior and Destiny were playing now, frolicking through the early-spring flowers like lovesick fools.

"...they are sickeningly adorable," Octavia muttered.

Grace shot her a sideways grin. "Watching them gives me a few ideas."

She made a subtle reach for her, but Octavia stood up and very gently flicked Grace on the forehead. "It had better be ideas about all the foals you're going to breed for me."

Grace glowered, but then Octavia leaned down and pecked her quickly on the lips, which made up for it.

Grace watched Octavia skip out of the tack room, smiling softly.

Then she looked around at a noise to see the saddle she'd just spent thirty minutes polishing fall directly down from where she'd perched it on top of the boot caddy, into the pile of dirt and sawdust left over from her earlier sweeping.

"Oh. Fun."
