Born into a family where manners were taught almost religiously, Clu could never completely erase the manners and speech he was taught. When it comes to the proper way to fold your hands or how to bow, Clu knows everything by the book and at this point, it's mostly instinct. No matter the situation, he can keep his well-spoken manners and composed air. Pair that with his naturally friendly attitude and relaxed demeanor and he should be great as a Teahouse workee...if it weren't for his aversion to actually working.

As well bred as he is, Clu still has a terrible work ethic. He's always up for a good conversation with a customer, but at the same time, he wouldn't mind sitting for a cup of tea himself. Clu is prone to sitting down, chatting with customers, drinking tea, etc., You could almost mistake him for a customer too. He approaches work like he doesn't have a care in the world and isn't all too concerned about maintaining a professional attitude while he works. Of course, he'll keep up appearances with his manners and conversation, but that's really just a means to hide the fact that he spends any chance he can get lounging around with customers. After all, good customer service is pretty important.

Besides that, Clu is really good at picking up on the subtle cues and hints to a person's character. It's probably a result of his upbringing too, but Clu actually liked the whole analyzing part. At home, his parents would've used what they knew to talk behind their subject's back, but Clu tends to keep that information to himself. Take for example, if someone came in with a weird stain on their shirt and no intention of cleaning it, Clu wouldn't start spreading rumors that they're slovenly and unkempt. He will, however, keep that in mind and probably judge them any time they show up with a stain again. His perception is pretty handy usually, but it's only useful to himself. If he's making judgments, he'll do it behind his cup of tea...

History :

From a larger city to the East, Clarence had an idyllic life to begin with. While his family was high class, his parents still took great care to look after him, paying close attention to his education and upbringing. Clarence's parents both came from well-respected families within the city, with huge family trees and names that bore some weight He had two other siblings, both of them older, so being the youngest child, Clarence was spoiled. There were no expectations of him, not even any pressure to inherit anything. Growing up, the most Clarence had to worry about was keeping up appearances and not disgracing the family name. In the stuffy tea houses and fancy restaurants of the city, he was Clarence, the darling third child of the Cao's. To those who actually knew him, he was Clu.

There wasn't much Clu could complain about. He never had to worry about poverty or no dinner being on the table, and he didn't have to worry about coming home to a terrible family. His siblings and parents were civil to each other and it could've even be considered a healthy, functional home environment. The one large, looming weight on him and his family was their reputation. It wasn't all that tragic, but being under the constant pressure of carrying around a name with as much weight as his was tiresome. There was the etiquette that seemed to restrain everyone he met and there were the lessons on everything from tea etiquette to dancing. He could certainly live up to his parent's expectations and maintain appearances but he couldn't help but be...tired of it all.

After 22 years of that life, Clu was restless. He was already well into being an adult, and frankly, there was nothing really expected of him. He had options. Clu could get into the same profession as his family and get ready to take part in the family business. On the other hand, he could go off and get himself a higher education just to come back and set up in the city again. Marriage was always an option, but his siblings could handle the whole "produce an heir" situation. None of those appealed to Clu, who was honestly at this point ready to run off on his own. It couldn't be that hard to survive out in the forest or somewhere, right?

He was still considering his options when the leaflet caught his eye. The colors were certainly pretty, and the photographs looked like a nice change of scenery. This could really be it...Clu was an adult now, he didn't need his parent's permission. He could just get up and go. Of course...that wasn't what he did, but his family wasn't that opposed to the idea. The general consensus was that it really...wasn't that bad of an idea. His parents agreed to the idea mostly because they are under the impression it'll cure Clu of his terrible work ethic...Maybe they'll be right?

As soon as the next season hit, Clu was on the train to Toffee Town, and hopefully, away from anyone who knew his family...

- He likes to keep his room decorated with colorful things, especially brightly patterned fabrics, since it reminds him of home
- He never thought Clarence suited him, but it's one of those things his parents gave him, so it's hard to let go of
- Expect tea puns on a regular basis
- His palms are usually burned cause he's got a bad habit of touching teapots without thinking about it
- Clu loves to run his hands through soft things, even if his hands are usually too numb to feel anything
- He doesn't like heavy aromas since he's the kind of tea "purist" that'll go on and on about "the beauty of subtle scents and the absence of smell"...He can be a jerk about it...
- He's the friend that'll ask you for advice and then not follow it, so...sorry about that...
- Clu changes his hair every now and then between a bun, ponytail, and braids on special days, but there's always a ribbon in his hair
- Around hybrids, Clu doesn't really know how to act, especially since he hasn't had much contact with them in the past. He tries, but there's always a chance he'll slip up
- When he speaks, Clu doesn't use contractions, since that's how his parents raised him. He still avoids them since it feels like a cheat out of talking
- When Clu speaks, there's an accent that's barely there and that you can't exactly place. It's not really that nice to listen to, but to his own ears, Clu doesn't think anything's wrong.
- Sometimes he misses home and thinks his decision to leave was probably too hasty, and the regret hasn't exactly faded yet
- What Clu knows about Tea and Teahouses comes from the lessons he had back home and from observing the teahouses there. He can't say he's a master of anything, but it's one of the few skills Clu can say he performs competently enough
