Description
So I really love making my mlp headcanon and I also have many ideas for AUs, especially a middle age version of Equestria with all the known characters in different roles and positions.
I alreay started thinking about the royals here (different kingdoms), but then I just randomly sketched these two.

Trixie Lulamoon is a travelling performer. She's very good at tricking people and the population of the small villages she travels through adore her little stunts. Well, it's a nice change from the dull work of the poor folks. Since she does it for free noone minds her extravagant appearance, her weird looks and, of course, the arrogance.
Trixie doesn't feel pity for the bored people, though, no, she manages to make a living quite differently. This is where Starlight, her loyal assistant (and once in a while lover), comes in.

Due to Trixie's poor real magic skills, she would never manage to let the money of her volunteers vanish out of their pockets, or at least without them realizing it. When she then asks for someone in the crowd to star in her next trick, Starlight does her thing and they quickly disappear after the show. They never visit the same village twice.
Starlight mostly feels bad about this, but Trixie is kind of a bad influence, but she really depends on her. She picked Starlight up in her hometown when she was close to starving because she couldn't afford enough food. Since then the two roam Equestria together and try to survive with the little they have.

Another important rule in medieval Equestria is that ONLY alicorns (they are always considered high blood) or members of royal families are allowed to use magic. It's strictly forbidden for common unicorns to use their powers. Death or torture is the punishment for those who disobey. (There's one exceptional place, but that's for another pic)
This is why Starlight is very anxious and oftentimes shy. She always suspects someone might get behind their strategy and tell it to some knights for a reward.
