In my opinion, Gouache is totally underrated: You can produce paintings with details and control as if you were painting in oil (with some exceptions).
At the same time, it's pretty fast to work in and you don't need a lot of equipment - just a water-brush and a few tubes of paint

Use to use the stuff but I was....picky! I would go back to it but I find the digital medium better and less messy and very forgiving
