ok first off in the first anime it has been shown that the transformation are actually faster than we see. In the season where the outer sailors(except for Pluto) where introduced there was an episode where they show how Sailor Uranus "awakened" as a sailor scout with Neptune transforming in front of her all she sees is a flash of light one second and there's Sailor Neptune transformed so no that would not be possible.

In my opinion they should now make it a standard to say that the transformations are instant and the sequence is actually happening in slow motion just to explain the anime logic.

Agreed. That could explain why most live action series with transformation sequences just have the character glow and, one second later, be transformed. (eg. Pretty Guardian Sailor MoonΒ towards the end of the series)

See, my head cannon is the following: the transformation actually occurs at a super speed, the change being completed in a handful of seconds. We, the viewers, see a slowed-down version for our own enjoyment. I also believe when transforming the Senshi are surrounded by a force field that protects them until the transformation is completed.

My interpretation is that from the point of view of bystanders and villains, the transformations take a millisecond. We at home just see the whole thing for the style.

lately, in a few of the kamen rider series, they actually address this sort of thing. in one episode of decade, he is changing, and the enemy attacks, but all the shots bounce away.
