I was listening to Spanish-speaking music during my Senior year in High school and I said that I love Spanish. But, some stupid bitch asked a question like "Do you understand it?" and I replied "Well, I'm learning Spanish, so I only understand a little bit of it.". I know that English is the only language I understand, but I listen to songs with other languages just because it sounds beautiful, catchy, etc.

Thank you! Finally, there's a stamp like this.
Music is created to feel, not to solely understand the lyrics. You don't have to understand the language of a song to listen to it. Just because it's in a language you don't speak doesn't mean you have no right to listen to it. So many people can't understand this.

Exactly! What I also like is that, just like learning a new language, when I have music that have titles in different languages, I take the time to learn how to say the title(Google Translate is actually correctly useful for once XD).
People who are reluctant towards listening to music in different languages don't realise there'll be something they like if they give it a chance. I would have NEVER found the exact kind of music I love to listen to if I didn't have an open mind.

I've been listening to music from my own country lately, Vietnamese pop. And it's slowly becoming more known in the West thanks to a Vietnamese song about the Coronavirus. It's more popular or known in neighboring countries like China, Korea, Taiwan, Japan, Thailand, and the Philippines.
Plus lots of people forget that not all music is vocal. There's instrumental music.

I like both vocal and instrumental music. Some music actually sounds better instrumental like the Princess Mononoke theme song.

I even like songs in languages I don't understand better. It's always interesting to listen to something I don't understand

I love European songs. My most favorite European songs are Caramelldansen (Not the speedycake remix, the original Swedish version.) And All Around The World (La La La), which is a Russian song covered by a German Eurodance group.

I love Russian love songs, German party songs, Chinese pop, Korean pop, and all types of Japanese music.
I have been told it is weird to listen to a song in another language, but I think different. Why restrict your music to one language? Besides, listening to foreign music has taught me to listen to the words less and the emotions more. Listening to songs in languages I do not understand has helped me learn to feel music more.

Absolutely true if you ignore the words you can feel the emitting behind it and that transcends different languages and its what makes music universal

Yes! The perfect example of that was one time when I was listening to some Japanese music, I found a song by s group I liked that I had never heard before.
Listening to it just made my heart swell and tears form in my eyes.
When I looked up the translation of the lyrics, it was a song about a boy whose girlfriend was dying.
This is actually part of the reason I hate most (but not all) popular songs and artists today. People like Rihannah and Kanye West are not making music to convey emotion anymore, they are doing it for money. So a lot of popular music today that I hear, I only hear greed and laziness behind, not powerful emotion.

Exactly I absolutely agree, but there's a difference even in popular music. If you compare early Britney Spears, like Lucky, to more recent ones there's a difference there. Oh and sorry for the typo "emitting" was supposed to be "emotion" as I'm sure you've guessed. Like in literature the best stuff is usually older.

Me too! Β I've got loads of Spanish, German, and Italian songs on my iPod--I'm learning those three languages and listening to the music really helps me pick up new words. Β I've also got Japanese and French songs on there and I like them, even though I can't understand a single word.
I love Rammstein too! Β

I'm not alone! My parents are wondering why I listen to Japanese music and I keep telling them that it sounds good, has a nice beat, etc. They try to tell me that they might be talking about us, but I'm pretty sure they're not and they are too busy with their own thing to worry about America.
Strange how they question me on that, but not my D&B track list...
