My favorite character ever, Ryu from Street Fighter....Alternate Costume version! Noticed my new icon? This was one of several unused alt costumes that was shown in a SSFIV artbook released in Japan not too long ago. I remember seeing Akiman draw him years ago with a beard and long hair and I've always wanted to see a older Ryu like this.....sucks that the SSFIV art staff drew many awesome alts and won't use it. Very Mitsurugi like hair and beard'stach right?

I started this about 2 months ago when I saw the art of Ryu's alts. Sadly, I didn't work on it steadily since CPS3 colors are such a pain to learn properly....had to work on it on and off. I have several sprites(about 3) that are left unfinished because I wanted to color it like SF3....I'm just glad this one finished and turned out pretty well compared to my C.Viper or my ugly colored Gouken.

Lineart took about 40-50 mins and the rest was just coloring it like a CPS3 sprite......such beautiful colors yet such a pain to learn. I tried mimicking the SF3 style as best of my ability and referenced several characters from Ryu, Alex, Urien and Makoto. SF3 anatomy is awesome.....it teaches you a lot of things if you wanted to learn exaggerated styles like Capcom's. Overall this sprite was a huge pain but I looooove it.....definitely one of my fav sprites I've made so far!
