Not long after losing her parents in a car accident, Makoto Orimura has taken it upon herself to raise her little brother Genji as she promised her parents that she'd always watch over him. However, it turns out that raising a child while still one herself is much harder than she thought and had so little money for food and clothes. So while trying to find a solution to their living predicament, Makoto took up dueling and competed in small tournaments for the prize money to keep them living. The duels were rough and not all of her opponents played fair, but she never gave up and kept on going until she won every single duel and earned enough money to keep them alive.

It wasn't long until some Kaibacorp higher ups discovered her dueling talents and offered her to compete in the larger tournaments where she can now live in the Tops. Seeing as this is the best chance she's got to live a much better life, she took up on the offer and they moved up to the Tops and she competed in several tournaments where she even took up Turbo Dueling and became the first woman to ever Turbo Duel. But what many don't know is that while she's a champion duelist and a celebrity, she did all for her little brother and seeing him smiling his the best reward she could ever hope for.

However, after she lost her title as champion, she decided to become a scientist where she worked alongside Dr. Fudo and built the first Ener-D reactor to help New Domino move forward. But it wasn't long until tragedy struck and Zero Reverse occurred, causing a smaller chunk of New Domino to be separated and become the Satellite at the cost of so many people's lives. In the aftermath, she was then blamed for the incident where she found a flaw in the system and wanted to stop it, but her warnings fell on deaf ears and now New Domino is in this current state. For the crime of Zero Reverse, Makoto was exiled from New Domino and was now branded as a murderer for the lives of so many people lost and was also separate from Genji who was still on the chunk that was now the Satellite.

Several years later after her banishment, Makoto returns to New Domino to help her brother and his friends in fighting off the Dark Signers and getting some payback for Rex Goodwin for making her the cause of Zero Reverse. Six months after Goodwin's death, Makoto has now become the new director of New Domino where she now works to put it back on its feet and has made it so prosperous.
