Description
HAPPY HALLOWEEN my fellow Deviants! :3
I present you with another Halloween tradition of mine that I began ever since I joined the military.
We have had six previous "Doghouse of Horrors" already as this is the month when I get particularly creative with all sorts of spooky and fun artworks.
Here are the previous six all presented by your lovely hostess Lady Malmsteen; whose birthday is also today. XD
Yeah she wasn't looking so lively in last year's. Well she's back an lovelier than ever.
I give you Doghouse of Horror VII!
And if you can tell by the cover; it's all about parody.
The cover is a parody of Pulp Fiction. (Obviously.) Sometimes this poster is just as famous as the movie; although it's the movie that pretty much tops a lot of 'Top Best Films of All Time' lists. (For some reason.) There's another film title in Doghouse of Horror VII that does the same.
I know; Pulp Fiction isn't horror-themed. (Though some scenes in that film can be horrific/disturbing as is the nature of Quentin Tarantino.) It's not my first Tarantino parody either; I did one last year with 'Rango Unchained.'
The best part of the cover is listing off the cast of characters who will appear throughout the special. It gets a little more specific at the bottom describing some of them. And if you didn't know already; the bottom name describes our Lady Malmsteen. ;3
anyways; onto the stories.
The first story is a parody of Steven King's 'IT.' I been meaning to do a parody of 'IT' for a long time as I love the book, the miniseries and the recent movie. But I didn't exactly know how to go about it for a while. I knew it had to involve Kitty; as this is definitely not her first encounter with a clown. Only she will be on the receiving end of the clown's wrath rather the former when a birthday clown surprised her to which she zapped him. You never forget a scene as a TUFF fan that involves Kitty Katswell zapping a clown.
The clown of course is a parody of Pennywise. In trying to go with how I wanted him to look it was between the Tim Curry version and the 2017 movie version. I think mine slides more to the Curry version; although in the end I think what I came up with looks a bit more like Sweet Tooth from Twisted Metal. Hey; as long as I convey and evil killer psycho clown that's all that matters. As for his name; yes I named him Nickelback. XD This is a parody after all.
Now for the story itself. IT describes past events to which Pennywise was around. So I decided to involve Kitty's ancestors in this one. Although this isn't like the Felis Codex that my friend created in the vein of Sly Cooper. No this is another account of Kitty's ancestors sharing one thing in common. And that is being haunted by a supernatural evil killer clown.
The theme of their different stories taking place at different periods in time also had me come up with the parody's title. It's based off the movie 'Cloud Atlas' if anyone can remember it; where it showed different stories of peoples' lives throughout time seemingly all linked. Only instead of class struggles it's an evil clown that links them in Kitty's case.
You know I have to admit; that is one nasty clown I created. It actually looks a bit terrifying. What do you think?
The second parody was actually given to me as an idea from . He actually quite a few cool parody ideas; including some for 'Nightmare on Elm Street' and 'The Shining.' Maybe I'll parody those some day too. But the one I ended up building upon he gave me is a parody of the 'Scooby Doo' franchise. It's actually been a while since I seen Scooby Doo. I'm more familiar with the original Hanna Barbara cartoons and some of the newer movies from the early 2000's. But it's the perfect cartoon series to watch during Halloween if you just want good campy fun. And it seems the campiness has been taken to a while new level here.
Featuring Mayor Teddy Bear; he's calling the TUFF gang because a ghost named "Holy Cow" is haunting him. I know; isn't there already a character on the show named "Holey Cow?" Well yeah; that's the big reveal. 'Holy Cow' was actually 'Holey Cow!'
WHATTA TWIST!!
But the Mayor realizes this investigation by TUFF may not go as smoothly as he thinks. The TUFF gang shows up dressed as the Scooby Doo Mystery gang. Dudley Puppy is Shaggy (and Scooby rolled into one.) Kitty Katswell is Daphne. Eric the Water Cooler Guy (who apparently gets his big break here) is Fred.
And the oddest of them all is Keswick as Velma. This somewhat fits him; and his memorable line is why I chose him to play the role. It's the not the first time he almost swore on a kid's show.
Why are they dressed and acting like this? Well that's something the Mayor can't figure out. In fact he's a bit disturbed that they're behaving this way and starts being more unsure of them than the ghost. Which is an interesting premise. Think of it; four oddly proportioned teenagers and a talking dog going around investigating the paranormal? Isn't that almost as odd as the original ghost/monster they're investigating? And it looks like the Mayor also has powerful political relatives. Is that a portrait of El Presidente back there?
Yeah it really is a mystery. Not even the ghost anymore; the mystery being the TUFF gang acting all Scooby-Dooish.
The third and final parody has a title parodying a non-horror movie and starts out that way; but quickly evolves into a parody of another horror movie. Interesting how it's pretty much two parodies in one story.
The title and premise of Larry going to jail is based off 'The Shawshank Redemption.' Larry goes to prison thanks to his fellow DOOM mates. Man; even Ollie threw him under the boss. It's not Larry's day at all.
While in prison he meets another cellmate like the in the movie. Only it's not the kindly wise-old comforting figure of Morgan Freeman. It's a masked killer named Michael Micers. Ah; here's the second part of the parody. It's now obviously a parody of the 'Halloween.' movies. (excluding III.) The recent Halloween 2018 movie came out and I have yet to see it; but I hear its actually pretty good.
Anyway, Larry befriends him and decides he could be a useful ally. In both breaking out of prison; and getting back at his former friends at DOOM for sticking him in prison.
So obviously they escaped. And obviously they're looking into DOOM HQ ready to exact revenge on Snaptrap, Ollie and Francisco. So at this point it's no longer 'Redemption' as it is 'Retribution.' All the other DOOM members looks spooked. Most likely cause that John Carpenter theme of Halloween is playing since Michael Micers is nearby.
www.youtube.com/watch?v=VLFx30β¦
The mouse mask was no doubt inspired by Maus the book series. I think even The Simpsons did a parody of that. Man Doghouse of Horror was obviously inspired by Simpsons Treehouse of Horror. We've come full circle now. XD
Anyways, enjoy your Halloween everyone. This tradition of Doghouse of Horror will never stop.
How many of them will I ultimately end up with? XD

I've never had any desire to watch 'Cloud Atlas', but 'Clown Atlas' sounds genuinely intriguing!
A possible final twist on the Scooby Doo parody might be the revelation that the protagonists are actually villains impersonating the TUFF crew, and they're doing the Scooby Doo thing because they don't know the TUFF agents well enough to reliably behave exactly like them.
The way Snaptrap keeps treating Larry, the plot of the Shrew-shank Redemption seems all but inevitable. I'm kinda rooting for Larry at this point - though he and the DOOM crew would almost certainly be better off putting their differences aside to face off against Michael Micers together. Still, as every slasher movie has shown us, even normal people tend to actively avoid doing the sensible thing when pursued by a seemingly unstoppable serial killer - so it's anyone's guess how Verminious "Let's steal all the pens from the bank!" Snaptrap and his pals would respond to this situation!

Cloud Atlas is ok but a but confusing at times when you jump around different time periods.
That's action a nifty twist to the story. Turns out the Mystery Gang stand-ins here are the true imposters wearing the silly costumes.
The guy in particular playing Eric thinking he was the main hero with his good looks and physique.
Dudley: Nah...he's just the water cooler guy! I'm the real hero! (Does something gross and stupid.)
Larry does indeed seem the kinda guy who would get back at Snaptrap quite a few times in these horror themed stories. We might not even know what Michael Micer's true intentions are allying with him due to being a masked killer and all.
Perhaps DOOM would join forces to hold him off if he turned; but I doubt they'd be successful in working together on a coherent plan that actually worked xp

Hey, how about in next year's installment, for the Dudley segment, you reference "Cujo"?
Also, since Petropolis's population is all animals, a reference to "Pet Semetary" would probably work, with all of Petropolis's deceased rising from the grave (without Keswick's help this time).

I can see the clown both going "Wah-Ha! Wah-ha!" and doing the dance.
As for the Shawshank Redemption, I do like to see Michael being the narrator in the end

The whole thing being told by Michaels perspective huh? And in the end Larry ends up bring more scarier than him xD

Aw, man...! I'm really happy that you referenced It. I've just recently seen both the original and new It films, so this was a cool reference for me. Also, believe it or not, I totally forgot about the scene when Kitty zapped the birthday clown. Despite all of my memories of the show, something from one of the first episodes escaped me. Crazy!
Seeing Keswick in that Velma getup is hilarious. He's so short that you almost don't realize he's wearing a skirt of all things. And Eric! Never thought I'd see him again in one of your pictures. lol The Michael Micers is freaky because that is one freakin' big mouse, and I never knew that Malmsteen smokes. You learn new things everyday. XP
Great work on this, Chris. It's always fun to see TUFF artwork from you. ^^

Yeah, I blanked out for a moment when I read the description. Been a long time since I've seen that episode, and yet I'll never forget Dudley drinking out of Kitty's toilet. lol
That's what I really like about these. It's fun seeing all kinds of different characters in different situations. Makes me wish the minor characters had bigger roles in the show, but aw well.
Yes, Snaptrap certainly is big for a rat, and so are his realtives. I think Michael's bulky build is what sets him apart here, since Snaptrap got kind of round later on.
You're welcome. ^^

Perfect way to open up Halloween itself in celebrating the Lady's birthday with the annual Doghouse of Horror anthology. In the words of Beetlejuice, "And it keeps getting funnier, every single time I see it!" Not to mention more sexy with the Lady doing that iconic pose that Uma Thurman captivated audiences with, to say nothing of the little black dress that befits her. At least that cigarette is just a prop; she would never take up such a bad habit. She's got enough of them in being the sexy evil Queen of Petsylvania, besides her being a late-night cheesy horror movie hostess.
First film is an instant win with the obvious parody of Stephen King's masterful horror that sealed our fear of clowns forever. Why, oh why, it is ALWAYS Kitty who faces such bad luck, whether on the job, or some dark family history? Her own mother loves her evil twin sister more than her, and this just adds insult to injury with Nickelback stalking her family for generations. Let's hope that when the monstrosity rears his ugly (and colourful) head again, Kitty will make like all the children in the remake and just beat the crap outta him with whatever she can use.
Nothing says spooky and campy together like the good classic teenage super sleuths of Hanna-Barbera, one of the few that still appeal to this one, after having seen how low others have sunk with the continuous failures of WB animated direct-to-video works. Great choice for all four TUFF characters, including Eric the Water Cooler Guy for Fred. Not the first time we've seen Keswick in a dress, either, but he's just not as pretty as Dudley, yet still funny enough for the super-nerd role of Velma. Kitty is probably flabbergasted by the kind of fashion Daphne favoured in the 60s and 70s. And Dudley, he doesn't care, as long as there's plenty of Scooby Snacks.Β Β
Never saw any of the Halloween films, but a good parody with good laughs is worthwhile here. The memorable quote alone is brilliant enough for Larry to team up with Michael Micers. The rest of DOOM is definitely doomed now, by the looks on Snaptrap and Francisco, while Ollie is slightly less shaken.
Thank you, bro, and to the Lady, for the yearly entertainment this Halloween holiday. May each night be filled with spooks and good scares that keep us laughing in the end. And from the masked fox, a very happy birthday to the beloved bat.

Oh man bro. XD If only I had the powers/time/resources to animate all these stories. To release an animated anthology on a yearly basis. I'm sure Mr. Hartman himself wouldn't mind. Dare I say he'd actually be a bit impressed just by the fact I managed to create a tribute to his work without overloading it with OCs.
Of course Lady Malmsteen being the ghoulish host is the exception to that rule. But hey, people are still waiting for her intro comic much like I did Lizzy's. Just need the time to do it.
I doubt The Lady smoked. And if she did it was probably for a brief period during her 400 reign as Queen of Petsylvania.
With Kitty it's funny because she is both the "damsel in distress" and the "badass female fighter" we know her as. Plus being the most popular character of the show; she's subjected to the most hostile confrontations. In past Doghouse of Horrors she faced her undead ancestor, a RITA possessed car and a bunch of train monsters. Now she's facing a supernnatural killer clown. I gotta feeling her luck won't get any better the more of these I churn out on a yearly basis. XD
I think she will be able to beat back Nickelback in that way. Actually an earlier idea I had was where Kitty and her mom fight off a horde of clown zombies using wacky props. It was gonna be called 'Attack of the Clowns' after 'Attack of the Clones' of course. Buttt that's a story for another day. XD
It's true that today's Scooby Doo iterations don't quite match the...ahem...quality of the original. But I think Scooby Doo is a generational thing constantly shifting to fit the needs of every generation and how society views it. And yes as long as there's plenty of Scooby Snacks involved (whatever those taste like) he doesn't mind the Shaggy get up. Zoinks. XD
Yes; Larry's psyche is a very dangerous place. He's worked for a psychopath now he's allies with another psychopath. It's clear Larry's gotta messed up life which makes for potential in telling his side of the story throughout these Doghouse of Horror anthologies. Ollie always was the lvel-headed one. I think if anyone can reach Larry it's him. However; Larry might actually turn him against Snaptrap and he sides with Micers.
I enjoy making these a lot bro. I thank you for the awesome commentary. ^^ Way to commemorate The Lady and her birthday as well ;3.

Yeah making these kid friendly is a huge challenge
Especially referencing a bunch of R Rated movies they're not allowed to watch xD
These specials push the boundaries a bit and go for the PG rating. I try not to make it go beyond that.
I also kinda make it where Larry gets a chance to get back at Snaptrap and be as crazy as he is. He has so much potential as the show's ticking time bomb
If Micers is anything like the Myers from the recent movie; he could actually go down with some amount of effort.
But yeah as you say; he's stealthy strong and persistent

Ah man, what's next on next year for Doghouse of Horror? Freddie Cougar or Jason Hoghees??
Yeah, there also a time he made a group that was more successful then D.O.O.M. which show how capable he is to what I heard.
True a big group is better then a small group, but they still need to look out cause he can smell fear!

Freddie Cougar yes; though I think Tiny Toobs did a parody of him exactly like that.
Never underestimate Larry. These horror stories make him larger than life too xD
