Description
While I was drawing a few Halloween themed pictures (in progress), I remembered I always wanted to draw my character Mai Ling dressed in different outfits based off different fighting females from different fighting games. As people have pointed out; she reminds them of a fighting girl from a fighting game. That is correct since that is most definitely where she came from: she was inspired by fighting game females.

So each character she dresses as here are some of the inspirations behind her; as well as just fighters I figured she would look good as in their respective outfits.
First one in the upper right is one of Mai's most obvious influences: Chun Li from the Street Fighter series. She represents the hands-on kicks and punches aspect of Mai Ling and her fighting style. As Chun Li is still one of the most influential females in video games, it's only natural I had Mai dressed up as her.
The next one represents Mai's sex appeal: Mai Shiranui from King of Fighters series. Now is there where I also got her name from? Not entirely. Before she was known as Mai Ling; I named her Mein Ling. But Mein sounded too German so I changed it to Mai. And yes I got the name from King of Fighters. But also because Mai has this habit of using fans in her fighting style; as both showing off elegance mixed with deadly skills.
Another character who used the same technique is also one I had Mai dressed up as: Kitana from the Mortal Kombat series. I dressed Mai up in Kitana's more modern outfit. This is where Mai's more brutal side comes in: though she doesn't do anything like the Mortal Kombat fatalities. (And you're some sick freaks if you wanna see her do anything like this. I keep things as PG or PG-13 as possible people when it comes to fandoms.) But I admit this one being one of my favorites since like Mai Shirani it shows Mai's sex appeal, while making her look cool and bad ass.
Finally from Soul Calibur (though for this outfit it's more from Soul Edge) I had Mai dress u pas a character representing her swordplay: It's Chai Xianghua. I chose her original less revealing outfit since it also shows despite Mai's sex appeal, she likes to keep it classy and functional in terms of what she wears to fight. Also Chai uses a more smaller lighter sword as opposed to the many larger swords used in the game. Small; but effective.

Other characters I considered was Jam Kuradoberi from Guilty Gear and Mai Ling from Warzards (It's purely coincidence; at the time I didn't know a character named Mai Ling already existed from this game.) But Jam's hair was too long compared to Mai's; and I would have to explain Mai just added a hair extension to make that loop. And Mai Ling's Warzards outfit was too bulky looking and detail oriented.

So yes; for those who think Mai reminds you of a girl from fighting games you are quite correct. That is indeed where I got the inspiration from. And now that I dressed her up as said fighting game girls; it's even more apparent.
