Description My entry for demonoflight's Moltres James contest.

Uploaded ten minutes before the (very generous) deadline. It's kind of a crap coloring job, done with stone knives and bearskins (MS Paint, same thing), and I may eventually redo it once I learn to use a civilized art program, but...for the first piece of art I've scanned and colored digitally, it doesn't suck TOO much, I think. (b/w version still looks better to me.)

Oh! I'm sorry I didn't see this comment until now! Thank you very much!

Yeah, the hat is the thing that tips the balance from "cool" to "silly" for me - I had to leave it off to take the idea seriously. And then I thought of Articuno-Jessie, and the idea came together...

Still, I hope to redo this someday, once I get a new freaking computer that can handle Paintshop. I still have the original concept sketches somewhere...

Thanks for commenting!

Great job! The coloring job isn't that bad. I actually like the texture to it. Almost looks like it was colored with crayons or colored pencils.

Thank you! Although that was kind of a side effect of not having time to go over every bit, I ended up liking that look, too.

it looks like you and had the same idea for jessie

That's why I didn't look at anyone else's entries till I had mine done...so I wouldn't know if someone else had a similar idea, which would have caused me to give up in despair.

But Jessie as Articuno is kind of a logical extrapolation...she loves snow, after all! XD (Also, her mom may have encountered Articuno...or so I've heard.)

You did that on MSP?! You have more patience than I do at least...

Actually it (Mostly) looks like he/she picked out the colors and used the paint bucket tool and didn't bother to color the entire thing in. That doesn't take patience. It'd take DAYS to actually fill in all the spaces.

But as far as I can tell, the shading on the hair looks AMAZING! I'd NEVER be able to do that on paint, EVER! I compleatly understand if you didn't have the time to fill in every little space, and I don't think you need to!

Well, I could see that, but I don't have the patience even for that xD *cough*I'malazybitch*cough*

Oh, and thank you for the compliments! Yeah, the hair turned out pretty good, esp. Jessie's, since I had to kind of make it up, not having time to look up a scene where she was facing that way and her hair went sideways...I think my subconscious helped a lot, though, especially above her ear. I was in my last half-hour before the deadline when I did all that...

Just think, I could have "shaded" the whole picture that way if I didn't have such a bad case of "Last Minute Syndrome!" XD

I did use the paint bucket, but I had to use the "spraypaint" thingie to get all the bits that the paint bucket wouldn't reach...which was a lot, especially on the right-hand side of the paper.

...although, actually, I used MS Paint because I'm NOT patient...it requires patience to learn to use Paintshop, whereas MSP is easy to figure out on your own (practically idiot-proof).

Also, on my last laptop, it was the only art program that would work right. I got *really* good at altering screen captures with judicious copying and pasting (like uniting two halves of a Team rocket "pan up from the feet", or eliminating the Cartoon Network bug from the corner of the screen) through sheer determination, mild obsessive/compulsive tendencies ()... and boredom.

Unfortunately, I'm also lazy...once I've learned how to do something one way, I resist learning a new method. But I have to, now, because I REALLY want to do more than Paint will allow.

It's just...why can't there be a good art program that works intuitively? Or at least one that has pop-up explanations on the umpteen settings you can adjust for each tool - so you don't have to experiment and remember so darn much to figure out what settings you need for any given task...

Bitch, bitch, bitch... XD

You don't have to use the spraypaint >.< Use the paint brush to get at the spots the "Bucket" won't get! It's probly a lot faster. It's the method I use when I *Cough*tracepictures*cough* Trace my drawings.

Oh do tell how get the Cartoon Network thing out! I wanted to put this thing from the 11th movie where Team Rocket is spying on the twerps together but I didn't know how, and now I think the Japanese verson of the movie isn't on Youtube anymore.

I remember this art class that I took and my teacher was compleatly amazed at what I did with a drawing on photoshop. I was like, "Big deal! All I did was add specail effects and that guy over there turned Lenny Kravitz' conrows into realistic icicles!"

You just, well, look for pixels, and pixel combinations, that look right for the space you're trying to cover up. You want hunks that have the same variegation as the surrounding areas. If you only have a little bit to copy from, you can "rearrange" the pixels a little to keep it from looking like multiple pastes of the same thing.

That's in Paint, of course. In Photoshop, I'll bet it's lots easier.

(...but MS Paint still blows. I only used it because I didn't have time to figure out anything more complicated, thanks to my own procrastination... XD)
