Thanks! I'm pretty proud of it myself considering no reference! It's great when a piece comes out how you want it to without a reference!
Plus, there's no annoying stock rules so I can do what I want with it!

I find I'm better at drawing Orcas than horses, even though I've been at horses for like, 3 years and Orcas a couple of months
Horse anatomy must be one of the hardest things to get right, so I thought I'd play to my strengths and make it easy for me by drawing it half orca!

Horses are a tough subject, one I have only tried a handful of times. So many joints. Orcas are cake by comparison.

Yeah I've noticed lol, just a long thing with a fins, tail and dorsal, they're a lot more enjoyable to paint For me the hardest part seems to be the pecs for some reason, still need to work on those.

Although to paint a horse correctly must be enormously more rewarding when it's done right.

I used to struggle with those. They vary between given individuals. And flukes, too. A combination of practice and looking at a lot of RL reference is what helped the best.

Tbh I feel more proud of my orca paintings People seem to like them more aswell But I suppose, yes It's a lot of effort though, a lot of equine drawings I don't finish.

Yeah as you can see on Aqua's ref sheet, I got the flukes anatomy completely wrong, but I think I've improved on that area. Pecs are just annoying as I always shade them wrong

There seem to be far more equine artists on DA than cetacean artists. That could have something to do with it.

I can imagine. And never would I try to paint one using only a mouse.

Even if the shape isn't perfect, I like the wide flukes on her. A wider surface area means her tail displaces more water when it strokes. Means she can probably reach faster speeds than orcas with smaller or curled flukes.

Yep, plus small flukes would have just looked odd on such a big Orca. My Equisona is very tall too, not sure why I always make my OC's massive, I just like the uniqueness and powerfullness of it, if that's a word

It's good to stick with a certain motif, if you feel it suits what you're creating.

Mine's even smaller than that, so I've no room really either Your mouse is very similar to mine!

My OC's are based on me, they represent me so they have personalities like mine

A Logitech? Yeah, I think a wireless mouse is pretty essential for digital painting.

The only OC who takes after me is grayorca (my approximate orcasona). The rest are based on anything from RL orcas to fictional alien robots (i.e. SS).
