Well the rendering i guess u did normally with brush and hard work, but the whole color changing is a bit vague for me.

hah well i dont think it needs a full tutorial

Heres how it goes. I have the main grey scale mecha on a layer. I have the overlayed stripes on a layer. Just put a colour balance adjustment layer in between these two for starters. These can be added by using the little half b&w circle next the mask button on your layers panel.

Takes a little getting used to seeing as colour balance has 3 areas. Shadows, midtones and highlights. Just play in each section and you'll get an idea of how it works.

Then mask out everything else apart from the mech once you've changed the colours.

Then select your stripes and change their colours and then change their blend mode.

That make sense?

ahhh the hue and saturation cant produce cool enough results... gotta go for the colour balance sliders... more control, better results!

color balance is the key indeeed
nice versions! i like the calm colors of the left one the most.
its just a suggestion...but you could add some more eye catchy little details to this sketch little decals and the stuff i always suggest to add ^_____^

at the moment i dont feel confident with logos and decals... i'll have to practice those alot more i know...
