A very simple sketch/doodle I have finished today. It has actually taken me several days to make, since I am just so incredibly slow and garbage at drawing...
This is my first The Great Gatsby and Nick x Gatsby fanart I am posting into my official gallery. However, I never officially submitted my actual very first Nick x Gatsby fanart which I made for Pride Month this year, I posted it only into my scrapbook. Here is what it looks like: fav.me/dda0i0j
My feelings towards this universe are extremely complicated and I am unable to explain it here all properly. What I need to proclaim though is, I am NOT a fan of The Great Gatsby as a whole. What I AM a fan of and love are the characters of Nick Carraway and Jay Gatsby (the two main protagonists, as well as the only truly good and likeable characters in the entire TGG universe, in my opinion), the shipping of these two characters (I am a huge Natsby shipper), and some other very specific aspects of both the book and the 2013 movie, such as several beautiful quotes I love, the sad and melancholy parts, the depth and hidden meanings, a few amazing orchestral pieces from the movie soundtrack and wonderful portrayal of characters and special effects in the movie.
As I mentioned, I absolutely love Nick and Jay as characters, as well as the theory that they are the true tragic romance of the novel/movie and their relationship is the only real and genuine one. I myself am a huge supporter of this theory, to the point I consider it true.
As for the drawing, this has been in my mind for a very long time now. Given the extremely tragic, unfair canon ending of The Great Gatsby, as well as my deep passion for sad, emotional, melancholy and angsty content, I got several ideas for emotional Nick x Jay pictures. This is so far the only one of those ideas I have been able to execute.
I drew this as sort or a post-canon concept. It is supposed to display grieving, mourning and crying Nick after the death of the man he had been secretly deeply in love with (yet his love ended up unrequited because Jay had never got the chance to realize his love and feelings for Nick), while the spirit of Jay Gatsby in form of an angel is appearing before Nick and comforting him gently and lovingly, reassuring him with the words "I'm here, old sport...".
I decided to leave this just as a simple sketch, due to the fact that making a full drawing with lineart, colouring and shading would take me too much time, and there are lots of other pictures I need to work on.
I am not really satisfied with the result since it probably looks too bland and plain... What makes me upset is also the fact that I realized there were other things I had originally wanted to add into the drawing (for example, I had thought about adding some pieces of paper and pens on the floor surrounding Nick, in order to imply that he has been working on his book about Gatsby), but it was already too late when I realized this.. I am so mad at myself... Not to mention, despite trying my hardest, it did not turn out as emotional and powerful as I intended for it to be.... *sigh*
Tools used: HB pencil, light pink coloured pencil.
I know it is nothing special or breathtaking, but I still hope you will like it a little...

The characters of Nick Carraway and Jay Gatsby from the novel The Great Gatsby belong to Francis Scott Key Fitzgerald. In the 2013 movie adaptation by Baz Luhrmann, these characters are portrayed by Tobey Maguire and Leonardo DiCaprio respectively.
