Born in a disciplined family of strong traditionalist ideals, Shirong, from a tender age, inherited the responsibility to keep the family business and honor as the first born. However, ceremonial visits to local temples gave the kid a chance to escape the usual routine. Great gardens, peaceful halls, the soft rings of the chimeco to signal meditation times and the presence of the Alakazam scholars, wise and honorable, kindled curiosity in Shirong to learn of their way of life, so he began investigating and getting to know them.
The more he studied, the more he marveled at their wisdom and teachings and, with his family’s permission, He began attending private classes with the Scholars. As years went by, he devoted himself to studying, obsessively, disregarding his family duties more and more until he evaded them completely.
The day came when, at the temple gates, Shirong and his parents argued about the path he was taking, dedicating himself to a life not meant for him. Steadfast in his decision to continue studying this that was his passion, Shirong refused to retake his family duties. It was then that Nianzu, the eldest and greatest of the Scholars in Kanto, who had been following Shirong’s progress, joined the discussion and asked that the youth’s parents let the boy decide his calling for himself. The parents didn’t dare challenge the wiseman’s wishes, but the one thing they did mention was that Shirong would have to let go of his heritage, his material belongings… and his family. Nianzu agreed. The youth accepted and that evening was to be the last time he saw his family.
Nianzu, impressed with the boy’s sacrifice and perseverance, accepted him as his protegé and taught him from that momento forward. Shirong demostrated superior skill, patience, dedication, and hospitality tan other students, but a greater arrogance as well. Said problem grew ever greater upon his premature evolution into an Alakazam, product of his incessant studying and meditation. Shirong’s inflated ego thus caused several frictions with old Nianzu.
The breaking point came the day Shirong noticed a group of apprentices innocently pranking one of the Scholars. He thought himself with the authority to scold them with harsh words. He was about to punish them when Nianzu intervened to stop the situation from escalating. Master and student had a verbal confrontation, where Shirong’s immaturity, arrogance, and cynicism became painful comments against Nianzu, whom he called negligent, senile, and deficient.
Hurt by his pupil’s conduct, Nianzu had no other choice but to severely punish him, isolating him from the others. However, unwilling to lose his apprentice, the old man changed the punishment, turning it into a challenge: Shirong would have to qualify for and graduate from Armonia Academy, or never again return to the temple.
Now that Shirong has qualified to study in the Academy, Shirong must learn virtues such as temperance, humility, and teamwork to return to accomplish his task. Virtues his master considers will turn him into a complete Scholar… and person.
