Description The Artemis Scythe was featured on the cover Vampire Knight Volume 2 but it did not make a formal appearance in the manga until the end of Chapter 41. This scythe was created to accompany my awakened Yuuki Cross/Kuran cosplay for AN.

Materials Used: Craft Foam, Foamboard, & Wooden Dowel

Lengthwise mine's was about 70 inches long. When I am standing next to the scythe, the highest point of the scythe reached slightly above my head.

Truth be told, this was the first time I attempted doing props for a cosplay so it was quite a learning challenge. But the Artemis Rod is also a good alternative to the Artemis Scythe because the main components of the rod can be found in a hardware store and crafts store.

If you only need to make a rod, then I would suggest using a wooden dowel for the rod's base because its' sturdy, durable, and comes in different diameters. Wooden dowels can be purchased at local hardware stores, such as Lowes, but I suggest asking before you purchase if they are willing to cut the wooden dowel to size after you pay for it. I mostly do fine details with fun foam/craft foam because its cheap, flexible, and easy to work with. After all the details are done, I would suggest covering everything with paper mache, to strength it; and afterwords apply primer before painting it/shading it; and finally apply paint sealer to protect everything. It's time consuming but the more time put into the longer it'll last. Good luck with your prop and sorry about the delayed reply

Thanks^^
The detailing was first all done with craft foam/fun foam and then I went back to shade in certain areas with paint to create an enhanced 3D effect.

Thank you so much. I've been thinking about making it with foamboard and just didn't know if it would work nicely. How did you color it? I'm also afraid of that rubbing off.

No problem. As for the color, I first covered the entire thing in gesso before painting it with silver paint and after the paint dried I covered it with a layer of protective paint finish.

How did you make it?

I made this by first drawing the blade of the scythe onto two pieces of foamboard and then gluing the blade onto a wooden dowel rod. Afterwards, I used craft foam to create the raised design on the blade and on the handle.
