Description Woaaa.... I really survived this one *__*

I still can't believe, I finished this after one week daily work on it, but it had to be finished till today, because I want to post it in a community at lj for Miyavi.

Freedom means a lot of things. Going your own way, taking your own decissions and being responsible for those. Responsibility... something, not everyone wants, but it goes hand in hand with freedom. You can't blame anyone else, if you decided wrong, but you can learn from and without decissions, without responsibility, there won't be any freedom for you.

My other drawing, I did for him, but already sent him via the yearbook-project:

----------------------------------------
----------------------------------------

It's by far the most difficult and detailed drawing I've ever did since starting to draw 2 years ago. Even my Kagen no Tsuki Fanart wasn't that bad, because of less details.

It was a lot of fun and really relaxing, though... As always to draw Miyavi ^^
Inspired I was by this amazing work of ~hedspace77
[link]

It's not nearly the same direction, but it made me want to draw something more complex than usual, although I will not reach that amazing talent in ages ^,^"

I feel bad that the trees seem a bit off, because of the scann and the contrast I had to add to get it more like the original... Also the black seems a bit digital that way, but this way was as close as possible to the original one >_>

Okay... that for now... I am so happy to have this finished, I don't know, what to say else. But was never that proud to be able to place my sig on a drawing as this time *__*

here the steps with explanation to the time, I needed:

Yeah, I totally need more Pencils and any blending-tools, while I don't have some, yet XD

It's always those hard shadows, troubling me, because I am afraid to overdo it and am ending up then with not doing enough, so that it looks that way ^,^"
Will really try to make better next time. Thanks very much again ^^

Oh yes, I put the image bit bigger now. You're right. Especially in the motorbike the very small details are easier to see ^,^"

Hehe, get a "Blending stump", which is a tightly packed cardboard/paper, pencil formed smoothing tool for pencil drawings. It is really, really worth having. Where you can easily smooth out the rough shadows.

No problem, hehe

Oh yeah! Much better now.

awww, thank you so much for that great and detailed critique

I am really happy, you like this work, because I put much effort and time into this. And I was very afraid of the jacket, while I was never good with leather. So i am really happy, it turned out well ^.^
You're right, it's tough to see in this size and I am wondering if making it bigger or same size, but without watermark...

Yes, I had my struggles with the frontshadows ^,^" I still have to figure out, which pencils to use for such. Thank you very much for the helpful critique. I will try my very best to improve my mistakes.

Your welcome! It was a pleasure to view this piece and "analyzing" it

Yes, I can see you put a lot of work in that! And the jacket is perfect from what I can see, you certainly i see it's leather! So great job on that indeed.

You could make it bigger, but you don't really need to loose the watermark if your concerned about your image, as if it's bigger, at least we can see more! So a win-win situation in my book.

Yes, I struggle with that too, what I think though, you really have to start with a pretty mid range hard pencil, and start to make a "base" for the shadows, and use a Blending stump to smudge it out and get it rather smooth, then just build it up with softer, and softer pencils and smooth out each "layer". This does take time though, and I haven't really gotten to try this technique, as I don't draw too much traditionally, but that's what my logic tells me should work the best.

Your skills go from strength to strength - I can guide you, but only you can bring out deep feelings onto the paper. Even I couldn't draw a portrait like this! e.deviantart.com/emoticons/n/nā€¦ " width="15" height="15" alt="" title="Nod" /> because you've chosen a ref photo full of depth - the trees/road in the background... to the complex motorbike in close-up. All the hard work and time really does show as a grand drawing. And don't forget how stunning his facial expression is here.
Aiming for complex drawings like this, helps you improve a good eye for proportion and attention to tiny details.

I would only suggest that the foreground shadows would be blended in better, because it's quite rough.

Truly wonderful!

Having had no time at all to comment on this myself yet (it's gonna come, watch out *lol*), I'm happy to see this very thoughtful and in-depth critique because it mirrors my thoughts on it a great deal. Especially that, apart from what was already achieved here, it was a great practise for even more stunning images - Neko-chan, you have no excuses anymore.

*huggz* to both of you!

She's willing to try out new compositions/techniques. And also carry it out on the paper in an experienced way. No nonsense!

Thank you! I'll probably aim a critique at you in future... (though, writing critiques won't be a common occurence for me.)

I know, I'm getting all the steps at MSN! That's so exciting, *huggz* to new media! XD

Argh, I'm always a bit scared when having to write critiques myself. I don't want them to be shallow.

Ptractice gone, now to the important stuff

wow, okay, 10 past 6 am, but before I am going to bed:

Thank you SO much for that critique
I am not even able to find the right words to say, how happy this makes me. On so many points of this drawing, I was barely able to stop me from rushing, telling me over and over again "Make it slow, but make it right" You were great help for me, remembering me on that, really.

I see the problem about the shadow in front, yes. Actually in the ref the shadows were very sharp. I guess they had heavy lightening on Myv to get it that way and I was totally unsure, how to draw this. Especially while the ground was very stony. Maybe, when sending you the ref, you'll be able to help me out, how to draw something like that next time?
Aww, I really don't want to bother you with that ^,^"

And thanks so very much again for critique and I always appreciate your helpful advice a lot. Thank you
*skipping the speech for hugging you down instead*

[Ok, I was probably getting up at that time.. ]

No problem! I was going to write a normal comment, but then the size of it started to grow, so I thought you deserved this detailed critique.

You seem to have the shape/edging of the shadow correct, it's just that you may need to blend in your shading into a smooth, sharp shadow. Just to make it harmonize well with the bike. In the background, the shadows are pale - you got this correctly.

YES! I'll be willing to help you out - send me the ref every time, if you want.

ShirubaaNeko In reply to TogetherToday [2013-04-28 03:36:28 +0000 UTC]

Thank you so much, honestly. And I totally agree. Leather is terrible to draw. I don't think, I could do the same again. I tend to be too scared to make contrasts too strong and then it doesn't look good

TogetherToday In reply to ShirubaaNeko [2013-05-08 04:34:53 +0000 UTC]

No problem at all! And yeah, I tried so many times and it came out terrible haha! It's even harder on traditional works! I swear, I may need to do drawings specifically on practicing leather, haha! And no worries, I have the exact same problem! I want to go outside of the box and try more contrasting colors, but I feel like it will turn out bad.

And sorry for the late reply!
