Britain stared. Rain drenched his uniform his hair, his whole being. He stared at his once younger brother. No, he thought. This can’t be happening... What did I do wrong? Why can’t things be the way they were not that long ago..? He held his musket tight, so tight that his arms started shaking. He didn’t want to cry. He felt the tears coming to his eyes but held them back until it hurt.
Like my father’s come to pass
Seven years have gone so fast
Wake me up… When September ends
“Hey, Britain! All I want is my freedom!” Alfred barked loudly, violently. “I’m no longer a child, nor your little brother! For now on, consider me independent!”
Here comes the rain again
Falling from the stars
Drenched in my pain again
Becoming who we are
No. Idiot! Why did he have to be like this? Why? Arthur lunged towards his brother, the bayonet of his musket flinging his brother’s weapon away. He aimed the musket at his face, panting heavily. “I won’t allow it!” The pain in Arthur’s voice was evident as he continued. “You idiot! Why can’t you follow anything through to the end?” The men in blue suits, or the men of the colonies, readied their muskets and aimed at Arthur.
As my memory rests
But never forgets what I’ve lost

Alfred, the future independent America, the future “hero”, was shocked. He’d never seen Britain in such…. Pain? Despair? Arthur lowered his gun. “There’s no way I could shoot you,” he admitted gravely. “I can’t.”

Arthur fell to the ground, face hidden in his hands. “Why?” He sobbed. “Damn it, why?! It’s not fair!” He cried softly, his younger brother staring down at him.

“You know why…” Arthur mumbled quietly as he stared down at Britain, also holding back tears. His memory had flashed back to when he was just a child, when his older brother was his idol, when all he did was play with him.

“What happened?” The past colony asked, his voice growing a bit louder. “I remember when you were great...”
