Man, I want to do that. Sorry, but imitation is the best form of flattery, right? Well, let me just say that your mastery of tone rocks, your composition is gorgeous and dramatic, and I am totally in love with your whole gallery. Thanks for sharing the talent with us!

Ooh, you use light so well. Great mood. I like the tree shadows on walls.
But to me, it looks more like night, as if the light comes from streetlamps or car headlights. I like it that way.

I really like the composition of this. The shading is brilliant, & I think it has a slightly eerie or tense atmosphere maybe.

This is fantastic! wow, there are so many values with is so nice. I find it hard to get good values when i do charcoal, for some reason i just don't do enough, but you did a great job. There is so much dimension and the detail is amazing. Great Job! but don't color it! it sets such a great mood with the black and white. =]

shley77 In reply to Genuine-Mayhem [2008-10-05 16:04:23 +0000 UTC]
thanks so much! i was really trying for a wide range this time, feel like ive been limiting myself a bit lately. I find charcoal really difficult too actually. But I find using a regular 2B pencil is easiest to get every value, using all those different hard and soft lead pencils doesn't do much for me. Charcoal is so intense right off the bat, but pencil, you got time to work it into a range of values =3

I'm really envious of the subtle changes in shade you got here; when I try to do pieces like this I'm too heavy-handed and don't notice until it's too late... XD;
