Description this is one of my illustration projects, for narrative. we had to do an illustration for a story with a theme of setting. so this is greasy lake, where a man has dissappeared and left his chopper running....
maybe you can find him in there somewhere
so my teacher told me to try painterly looking. help me out a bit and comment please?

oooh i love it! i especially like how the fog collected at the edge of the bank. i have the distinct feeling that i see an olive-ish face-ish thing in the mid left under brown things that look like a cross between dirt and leaves.

what would make that sound even more awesome was if his head were cut off by the chopper and thats the head-ish thing i see there. either way, great work and it looks a tad like an oil monet.

cool, thanks! nah it wasnt cut off, its still attached to the rest of his body. but does it make u feel better that he was definitely murdered and is now all mushy/rotten/waterlogged? XD eeeew

Great atmosphere. Don't you know, honey, the bodies always get caught up in the reeds. Yes, I have a morbid sense of humor...but that's where he is.

I LOVE HOW YOU GOT THE FOG IN IT!!!! wow you must really paid attention to how light looks in murky waters! I think it paid off! and phoo what your teacher said! I think it's GORGEOUS! once again, you do an awesome job! It's amazing how you can improve too! I thought you were already michael-angelou status! ha ha ha of course, I do agree that maybe defining the lines a bit on the chopper would be more clear of what the picture is, but not completely, because in a lake like that, you wouldn't be able to make out the EXACT lines of objects. so I think just SMALL SMALL SMALL ALMOST NOT NOTICEABLE things could be done. but really, I think your teacher is looney ha ha (most of my teachers would critisize me because I got "too creative" I guess teachers are just like that?) great job done! definate

*groan* Typical nonsense art-teacher comment... What on earth is 'painterly looking'? *groan* The only thing I can think of which I think may make it more striking is clarifying the handlebars on the chopper... They look a little misty like the lake... I think by making them more solid looking it will bring out the softness in the nature... Have I confused you yet? BTW... I really like the pic as it is!

It looks very smudged and greasy, so I think you achieved your goal. I can't really think of anything to add to what the others have said about making it better though. I supposed there could be a bit more definition on the reeds close to the camera to give a little bit more depth (not that the painting doesn't already have that)....and the white thing at the back is a little hard to make out, but overall I think it's a fantastic composition and I loooove the colors you chose. I'm especially impressed with the fog over the water, it looks very nice.

This is beautiful - the textures and subtle colours especially ^^ - and the way there's tight detail in the furthest-away place (argh I have no vocab >_< but it's all blurry at the front. Maaaaaaaaybe you could put some more light in the far-right foreground - you've got light on the reeds but no obvious source. Seriously, though, it's lovely.

I read that story a year or so ago for college. And that's almost how i imagined it... It really looks "painty" but maybe the strokes are a little to soft. It reminsd me of chalk. Otherwise amazing atmosphere.

I like it, it seems fairly impressionistic/expressionistic and definately artsy enough to me.

I imagine that the plants in the foreground were hard to paint.

Very good work, very moody The title reminds me to a short story of T.C.Boyle also named Greasy Lake.
Keep it up Ashley

It looks good. I don't knw what to sugguest because I'm not a painter... but maybe add more smaller strokes so it looks more in focus. I really like it how it is anyway though. Great job.

Great concept but there are a few thing:
1.) It needs a bit more definition in the center 3rd IHMO. It is too hard to make things out. Don't over do it but a bit more might help.

2.) The colors are good but a wee bit bland. Add few more color to help draw the "eye" in.

Other than that I think it speaks volumes!

very......blendy......
it actually looks greasy, which i can imagine probably was difficult, and i like the hazy sort of mist around the plants at the front.
