Thanks Megan.
Drawing in public is such a weird fear. I never did any art projects during classtime when I went to UCM. lol! I'm starting to feel more comfortable at these sessions. Everyone is real nice.
I'm surprised to hear Lynch say that. He seemed to favor photorealistic art when I had him. One of the main reasons I left UCM was because of that. He would make us use an artograph to trace photos or a drawing for certain projects. Most of the students who got A's were photo realistic artists. It seemed like the majority of UCM graduates had a similar looking style.

Well, he still likes the photorealism. He's gotten better about stylization over the last couple of years, but he still emphasizes photoreal. He was mostly saying that using a photo can have distortions and we need to understand what they are and how to fix them to make the piece look correct rather than matching the photo.
But yeah, it's hard to come up with your own unique style with him wanting you to be realistic. Mrs. Willey's better about letting us do more stylization. I actually got to spend all of the last illustration class working on a children's book about an anthropomorphic bird. I think alot of his wearing down came from the class before mine. People like Shannon Hibdon ( [link] ) and Stephanie Cox ( [link] ) really helped.

nice! I spent my time in figure class getting very loose. Lot's of time experimenting with figure anatomy which is easier to do with a model.
I still think it's a good idea to rely on reference especially for details, and inspiration.

I agree. My problem is I have trouble drawing on the spot and tend to use photos to inspire a drawing.
Question for you: When you do figure drawings, do you tend to draw BIG or small? I'm starting off with small drawings but as time goes by I hope to draw on bigger paper.
