7: WWE Champions (Android)
Mood music: Fight by CFO$
Frankly, any phone game could have taken this spot. I just want to recognize this unusual role that video games currently have in my life. Like I use phone games as spackle to fill non-stimulating moments: riding the bus, toilet break, waiting in line, etc. Phone games seem to develop these unique game mechanics, and WWE Champions is a match 3 puzzle game with a lot of these mechanics. To unlock characters, you need to collect shards, and to level up characters, you also need to collect shards. Your playtime is limited by an energy meter so either you need to wait or to pay. Playing against someone with a higher level feels very one-sided. It may seems weird to like these elements but I like how it control my temperament. I care enough to playing daily on a bus ride but not enough that I feel like I needed to play this.
As far puzzle game on the game goes, I think this game is more engaging than Marvel Puzzle Quest. That being said, if you want a clicker, I recommend Egg Inc. If you want a city builder, I recommend City Mania. If you want actually good game, there is The Battle of Polytopia which is a short Civ-like game. It’s actually too good; whenever I start a game, I really want to finish it. Animal Crossing Pocket Camp could have taken this spot if I had it when I needed to ride to bus.
