Description this ship doesn't get enough credit.

I TRIED SO HARD TO DRAW PAPA BEING A GENTLEMAN AND CARRYING GERTRUDE. I GUESS IT WAS NEVER MEANT TO BEEEEE. But Gertrude can carry Papa, no problem. She is one tough lady. Especially to put up with that man.

Even though Papa and Gertrude admittedly have their tough moments, like Papa attempting to leave everything the moment things get too weird, they're still an awesome couple.

It kinda is a ship. Especially since they're characters. When someone likes two people together as a couple, they ship it, regardless of whether or not the ship is cannon. I don't really like the idea of shipping real people though, so I don't think the term 'ship' would apply to your example anyway. That's just my personal opinion though.
