Description The first half of an instructional piece done for class- I planned to do the next half on gentility and courtesies but, of course, I'm in college. I never have time. I meant to make him look less like, oh, I don't know, a man from the 20th century gussied up in 18th century attire, but I was more rushed than I would have liked on his face.

Quick Cautionary Note: this was for a project in class, and is in no way meant as something to be referenced by other people. If I was putting together a guide to costuming that was an actual tutorial, I'd be referencing period illustrations and extant garments all over the place. This is decent, sure, but you're much better off looking at the real stuff.

Actually, one of my favorite things about this was not the illustration, but the text. It was really neat to notice how you used the wiered style of writing that they used, in that the 's' looked more like an 'f'
The only thing is that, from what I've seen, generally there would only be one wierd s, and then it would be followed by a regular one, in the event that there were double letters.
(Like so: drefs, where f=wonky s)

Oh my god I love you for this! I realize this was a project but...gah! I still love that you did it. I am so obsessed with 18th century men's attire haha! I just get so warm and fuzzy when I discover people who have a similar love.

I really, really love this! It's nice to see what other artists/students are up to in their research on 18th century clothing. I especially like this idea because, even though by no means is it complete, the subject material is well thought out and designed. I wish there was more material of its ilk out in books. I would love to put together a book on 18th century reference material for designers and artists, but it would take a long while... the research alone would be enthralling, but the time it would take AND, as you mentioned, all the points of reference to remember to add.

In any case, I put it in my favorites. Very nice.

Thanks! Yeah, as it is we sort of have to hunt for reference, and we end up with (I'm sure you're familiar) piles of books that we have to pick and choose from. In the manner that there are "how to draw animals" or "how to draw anatomy" books, I'd love to see some "how to draw and research [insert historical period here]" books. It would be so damn helpful!

Definitely! I would love to work on a project/book on "How to Draw People from the 18th Century" (like how they have "How to Draw Manga") and other reference books for graphic novelists, cartoonists, designers, etc. especially one that covers each decade. Occasionally I'll watch a film or read a book where the costuming, etiquette, and other details are missed. For historians and history lovers, that can be distracting! Personally, I just love the details, and in my own personal research, find something new every time. It's a fascinating century.

Just wanted to point out that, as it says in the description, this isn't meant as a tutorial- there are far better references out on the internet.
