Description
For our suite's "portrait of the artist with their favourite flightless bird" chllenge. I wrote a poem in 5th grade about being astride an emu in some... Some emu race, I suppose, and the image has stuck with me since.(brush pen & Photoshop)

Seeing this brought on a Joust flashback which is always a pleasant experience. Β I am still amazed at how much better I was at that game at 10 than I am now. Β Usually it is the exact opposite.

Hehe the very first piece of art that I got paid for was for an emu festival... yes I know
I love the concept, though (and this may have been stipulated out by the specifications) I think the emus might would be well served to be a bit larger to carry humans.

You know, I would have totally done a deinonychus. I love rubbing my knowledge of paleo-things in people's noses like that.

Oh, wow... i just don't know what I can say to this. It's so cool! And the emu is so cute! the simplicity is just beautiful! And the style looks so good with this kind of picture... kinda jagged, ya know?

My father is a penguin and my mother is a Crout, so by no means am I implying a flightless bird is imperfect in any way, but the emu is the last of a long line of moas and dodo's, I'm just saying its only a matter of time before his model is recalled as well. And what better gift could you give an emu than a one way flight to Portugal! FIRST CLASS! get him a little digicam to make some vids for the fam back west. Birds are not to be mounted, they are to be treated with a modicum of dignity. (and I don't mean a diamond studded saddle)

Very true, very true. But, really. It is only a drawing. And quite an innocent one at that. I doubt that Shoomlah has seret dreams where she wants to harm emus, or any other giant flightless birds for that matter.

Have you had the emu omelette? My god it puts a bison burger to shame. And speaking of dreams, I have a dream. A dream that I will walk toward home along fifth avenue, passing large flightless birds rummaging through restaurant trashcans. There's a black president and he hates global warming as much as woody allen hates curb your enthusiasm. I have a dream where the emus save a place for me, and everybody has a nick name. Mine would be danger, because I would do death defying trips on a skateboard.
And yes I have asked the Emu, and he told me I should be wearing a helmet.

The Cassowaries were always my favorites. That funky casque and those raptor toes .... not to mention the blue face, and the fact that the females leave all the baby rearing to the males.

I was once bitten by a small emu, but the birds do look cool (especially how you draw them). I like your corrolations of color scheme and themes, as well as the overall appearance. Very nice.
For me it would be a tough draw between a penguin and a kiwi. Do puffins fly? Ooo, third contestant . . . x_x
