As soon as Dean's back was turned, Sebastian snuck Lemon half of a horse treat he had in his hoodie pocket. It had been chilly that morning, and like hell he was going to put on that stuffy show jacket before he had to. He'd already gotten reamed once for keeping horse treats in that jacket's pockets, so this was his in-between.

Lemon snuffled Sebastian's palm in a futile hunt for more after crunching the treat between her teeth, and Sebastian scratched the stark white spiral of hair on the mare's forehead. "Sorry, friend, no more until after," he whispered, jumping when Dean tapped his shoulder. "Uh-- yeah?"

"What did you just give her?"

"Nothing," he responded immediately.

"Seb, c'mon."

"Just a half of one of those apple-flavored treats."

Dean gave Sebastian a long-suffering look. "Before she's done her work?"

Sebastian shuffled his feet, avoiding Dean's eyes. "... It's so she knows there's more where that came from."

"She won't remember she had one in a few minutes, she'll hardly understand the concept."

"She's smarter than that," Sebastian objected.

"Lemon is a horse, and while she is wonderfully intelligent, she won't understand that you weren't just rewarding her for something," Dean chided, sliding the saddle pad into place on Lemon's back. "They're like four year olds without the capability of speech. Or something like that. It's been years since I actually read the article comparing a horse's intelligence to a child's."

Sebastian huffed, going to Lemon's other side with their saddle over one arm and putting it in place before passing the girth under her belly over to Dean. "She's smarter than a four year old. Might even be smarter than me, sometimes. I just don't see ghosts everywhere."

"You're proving my point. Anyway, where's your show jacket?"

"Dunno. I think it's in the truck."

"Well what are you waiting for?? Go put it on!"

"I want to put it on at the last second, just in case she decides to snot all over me!" Sebastian whined, finger-combing Lemon's mane in a last-ditch attempt to avoid being pressured into putting on that stuffy damn jacket.

"Tell you what. Go put on the jacket, I'll lead her until you're ready to get on, so if anyone gets snotted here it's going to be me," Dean bargained, swatting at Sebastian's arm. "I'm wearing a polo. You're wearing a nice, pressed and above all white shirt. Your tie... is probably under that hoodie, if it's not it should be."

"Don't you think the judges will appreciate a little bit of casualness in the middle of all of this stuffiness?"

"No," Dean said succinctly, favoring Sebastian with a grin. "Come on, you're the one who asked me to come with you for this. Don't complain when I try to guide you into the path of dressage success."

"You're laying it on a little thick there, aren't you?" Sebastian joked, feet already taking him back in the direction of the truck. "But you're right, you're right; let me go find that stuffy jacket."
