Danzaburo Danuki is a Japanese Yokai monster folklore in Sado island, Niigata Prefecture.

Danzaburo is one of the three famous Bakedanuki in Japan.

He is the boss of all raccoon dogs in Sado. He tricked human by creating invisible wall on a street, using fake money made out of leaves, making his nest look like a mansion and invite people, or transforming into human to go to a doctor.

On the other hand, he gave poor people some money he made by himself working in gold mine. If you leave a loan document with date and amount you need, in front of his address, the paper will disappear and the exact amount of money be there next day.

There are two legendary stories for the reason why there's no fox living in Sado island.

When Danzaburo was on a way to Sado isaldn, a fox asked him to travel with. Danzaburo told the fox to transform into his waraji shoes as fox could not be allowed on a boat. On the half way to the island, Danzaburo threw away his shoes into the sea. Since then, no fox ever imagined to go to Sado island.

Danzaburo met one fox during his trip. The fox asked Danzaburo to compete their transformation skill. Danzaburo said to the fox that he'll transfom into Daimyo march and disappeared. Later, Daimyou March appeared and the fox stood in front of them and said how Danzaburo is good at it. However, it was a real Daimyou March and the fox was killed by guards as he insulted the Daimyou.
