26. October, 2013
This was a golden October, indeed. The trees had started throwing their leaves away, all burning yellow or red, and now they formed big heaps all over the meadows.
It was Saturday, one of the last sunny days of the year. Most of the horses were outside on the big pasture, which was located a little away from the Waving Tree's main building, and enjoyed the last warm sunbeams on their pelt.
So did Sachiel, the chestnut dun Enochian mare. She had come to the stud in March, and now, after half a year, she had settled in quite well. She enjoyed, yes, she loved her new home, with those conifers everywhere and this river - which had sounded so beautiful on hot summer days.
And though she was quite a character, she got along with the others really well.
Especially Tango.
Sasha was actually the only mare who got along with this quarrelsome chestnut mare. It was okay with stallions in her company, but mares! She would always kick and bite and just behave like she fell out of the wrong side of her bed.
But not, when Sasha was around. At least not that much.
Anyway - on this very day, the mares were outside together.
Some birds were singing, at least the ones that hadn’t gone to warmer regions yet - and the sun was still powerful enough to make the day enjoyable. Though she was now slowly setting, transforming the landscape into one big ocean of light, and nothing but light.
The little group of chestnuts were clinging together at one side of the pasture, slowly altering their position with the light. The shadows grew longer and longer, and the nearer they got, the faster the horses plodded to the places where the sun still shone.
Suddenly, the horses’ ears flicked backwards. Some well-known sound was to be heard, and Sachiel was the only one who stopped grazing and actually lifted her head to see what was going on. There was somebody at the fence!
She flared her nostrils when she recognised her partner Daniel. But he wasn’t alone - his sister was with him. They both leaned against the fence and seemed to be deep in conversation, as they used to do very often.
She couldn’t hear, though, what they were talking about. But even if she’d be able to hear it, would she have understood it?
“Well, Daniel”, Anne said softly and took a deep, content breath. “How do you feel now?” She had put her arms on the top picket and let her eyes wander - over the pastures, the horses, the ground and land which was actually hers.
“Concerning what?”, Daniel said only. “Because of Sasha? Or what?”
“No, no… not only with her, but with the whole situation, I mean.”
“It’s okay. Relaxing, somehow. Can stop thinking here, and rather living. Sasha… is like an angel for me, if you understand what I mean. Never thought that I would revive that whole Dressage thing like years before…”
“Don’t you miss the Palast?”
“Oh, I do. Can’t change it, that’s all.” He sighed heavily. “Sometimes I think, all that stuff with the movies and filming and so on was just a happy dream, nothing more.”

For me, it always was an acknowledged truth that Tuna (being a chestnut) looks wonderful in autumn, because of the light, the colours and the what-not-all... But what about the other chestnuts? Soooo I found out that I love the combination of chestnuts and autumn. xD
And I found out that I seem to have a thing for them, especially flaxens.
4 of 6 mares of mine are chestnuts, and not a single stallion. Isn't that strange? xD
I initially wanted to practise some Saddlebred-anatomy for Sasha, but then a whole picture was born. ta-dah.
The shading is rather rough... because of the surface I drew this on. (if that makes sense, my english is really wobbly. xD)
and a level-up for her!
