“I think I’ve seen enough stars for a weekend!” Dick sighed when he and James left the neatly decorated indoor arena of Pemberley Park behind to steer their horses towards the guest stalls. He had knocked his head the evening before while he was crawling into the narrow loft bed of the camper. And only this morning had his head made the acquaintance of the vehicle’s doorframe.

He took his helmet off and ran his fingers through his hair.

“Maybe you should stay Commander Dark Helmet for a little while longer,” Jim joked. “Who knows what comes next.”

Dick rolled his eyes and huffed something that Jim couldn’t quite understand - which he found rather offensive: how dare Turs not hop on the joke train? “Yo, you alright?” Jim asked and turned his head to squint at the friend. “C’mon, that wasn’t so terrible?”

“No, that was legendary no doubt,” Dick said, rising his eyebrows and shaking his head slightly. “That’s not it.”

Jim pulled a face.

By now, they had reached the guest stalls, and Dick hurried to jump out of the saddle and shove his reins into the hands of one of the grooms. “I’ll show ya,” he said, walked towards the tack locker and stuck his head in - and as he appeared again, he’d pulled his phone out of one of the crevices of this behemoth of storage space.  While Jim slipped off Piglet, he tapped the screen furiously until he had found what he was searching for.

“Dear Mr. Turs,” he read from the display. “...Mhhhnnmmnm… We would like to nominate you and two of your top horses for the short list of athletes in consideration for the upcoming Tokyo 2020 Olympics. In alignment with the FEI rules of horse ownership, it is requested that a nominated horse must be owned by an individual with Irish nationality. Blah blah, please let us know... meet those requirements; if not… regret to scratch you from the short list, further information about the rules… and so on, you know the drill. Best regards, Siobhan O’Malley for Horse Sport Ireland.”

Jim threw up his hands. “You’re shortlisted!” - but instead of a reaction, Dick only pouted at his phone, slouching his shoulders. “What, what did I miss,” Jim said. “Where’s the catch?”

“Rules of ownership, eejit - neither of my best horses has an Irish owner. That would have been the chance for me. Man, now I wish they hadn’t nominated me in the first place, I would be less disappointed. But this is like… like holding a cake in your face, but telling you that you’re not allowed to eat it.” He let out a frustrated sigh. “This can’t be true...”

Jim frowned as well. “Oh.”

“And of course it’s not Black Bess that got nominated.”

“Who’s on the list?”

“Francis. And Front Line.”

“Ah.” Jim was silent for a moment, then he offered, off-handedly: “You could buy ‘em?”

Dick snorted. “I’m sorry, Dave, I’m afraid I can’t do that.”

“Why not?”

“‘Cause I don’t have a donkey in my yard that shits money.”

“Half?

“You know I’d take that offer anytime - if I could afford it, that is. Half of that horse is probably all my savings. And you know I’m gonna need money for the little one.”

“Just look at it as a good investment into your future. An appearance at the Olympics will bring you attention and possibly new sponsors.”

“You’re not wrong there.” The grim expression in Dick’s face slowly got softer, while he contemplated his friend’s offer.

“And don’t forget Fronty is a breeding stallion. Half ownership means half of his stud fees go to you as well. And should you ever run short of money you still have the option to sell your half again. Maybe even with a plus if you succeed at the Olympics.” He added a cheeky wink. “So, do we have a deal?” James seemed so self-confident that it did not leave room for the rest of a doubt.

Dick fought an inner war against his conscience. He squinted. “Where’s the catch?”

“No catch. You’ve been a show rider for the longest time, about time you join the business, isn’t it?”

Dick nodded. Slowly first, but more determined when he realized the consequences of this investment. “How soon can you draw up that contract? The more I think about it, the more I like the idea of becoming your business partner.” One corner of his mouth took on a life of its own, making its way through the face.

“Glad to see your smile’s back!”

“Do you know what that means?” Dick striked a pose that was supposed to look sort of epic, one fist raised. “It means… To boldly go where no man has gone before!”, he exclaimed in the deepest tone of voice he was capable of.

“...The Tokyo Olympics?”

“The Tokyo Olympics!”

“Oh, and your bad jokes have returned, as well. I’ve already missed them.” James’ voice dripped with sarcasm, but he couldn’t hide a little smile.

And Dick noticed it. “Thank you, bro. Really.”

COLLABTIEM

Another piece Fibo and I collabed on when she was at my place in August It's actually hard to pinpoint what exactly we did on it... I sketched, Fibo lined, then we painted it simultaneously for a while until we made a bit of a game out of it - we assigned numbers to the elements (BG, Bess, Piglet, Dick, Jim, obstacle) and rolled a dice to determine what each of us would be working on for 10 minutes, then it was the other's turn to roll and paint for 10 minutes.
ALL WHILE WATCHING QUEEN AT WEMBLEY WOO
Fibos and my gallery are slowly morphing into one and I'm completely okay with that XD And it gives me something to upload even though I haven't had time to draw in forever (thank you diploma film :' ) )

ALSO LET THE TCC SYNDICATE BEGIN I'm so excited
