I've been wanting to make an original species for a while, but Amphibifae are my favorite by far. So!

Brief: Amphibifae are mysterious, frog-like beings who live in lakes and ponds. Not quite a fairy since they can't fly, but not mortal either, as they are magic and can live for hundreds of years. Although they live equally in water and on land, extra water can be stored in their bodies. This helps with extended periods of time on land and can last for up to 36 hours.

Biology-

Life Expextancy- 450 Years(100 yrs is adulthood
Height- 15-25cm / 6-10 in (excluding tail)
Weight- 2-5 lb. (dehydrated)
            3-7 lb. (hydrated)

-Despite having ear-like fins on the sides of their heads, Amphibifae actually hear via spots on their faces much like a frog's tympanum. Tympanum can hear just as well as any other "ears". Amphibifae can sing very loudly without damaging their tympanum and use this to deter predators, make mating calls, lure/deter humans, or just annoy a friend.

-Their hair is also not like a mammal's- they're a part of an amphibifae's body and can store water. Each strand of "hair" is hollow on land to prevent it from being heavy. Longer "hair" can add up to 10 hours of unassisted time on land. (model's hair would add about 6 or 7 hours f.y.i.) Hair can be cut/styled since the hair doesn't have nerves, but it is best cut when dry and may take a few days for the ends to heal before holding water again.

-The tail of an amphibifae remains through adulthood in development. Actually, child amphibifae tails are shorter and less dextrous. They use their tails for swimming, despite also having webbed fingers and toes. This is because with high water content, their limbs are more difficult to move quickly. If an amphibifae has a lot of water stored in their body, they will swim with their arms and legs at their sides and propel with their tail. Rarely, an individual can be born with two tails. Two-tailed amphibifae are associated with nobility and wealth since having two tails lowers mobility considerably. Knowing a two-tailed amphibifae can elevate social status within the amphibifae society. The ratio of one-tailed to two-tailed amphibifae is 1:1000.

-An amphibifae's diet is omnivorous, They may may eat algae, insects, freshwater plants, mussels, and fish.

-Amphibifae are unique in that a female can either lay eggs or give live birth. The eggs are very small to a human, but are the equivalent of a piece of boba to a human. Females have a menstruation cycle containing a clutch of eggs. If fertilized internally, only a few offspring will be born. If eggs are laid, the fertilized clutch is buried underwater and guarded until hatching. Up to 12 eggs can be laid, but the survival rate is much lower like this. Amphibifae each have their own preference on which method is morally/ethically better.

Sociology-

Amphibifae are very social and enjoy good company. Most Amphibifae live in groups of less than 50. Population varies depending on the body of water's size. Since Amphibifae also value safety and privacy, there will be roughly 100 amphibifae per community in a lake/pond. Some larger amphibifae civilizations can be found in slow-moving rivers and streams. Their societies are very closely knit and rumors may spread quickly. If an amphibifae decides to leave or is exiled, it can be a very dangerous journey to find another village. Sometimes, the nearest town can be tens of miles away. An amphibifae traveling needs to carry excess water outside their body storage in case it can't be found on the way. it may take a whole day for one to travel one Kilometer.(.62 of a mile) On top of that, there is the high chance of predators, too. If an amphibifae can survive the journey, they are often treated with the best hospitality possible by the other village.

CREATION RULES

This is an open species! Anyone can make up to 3 free Amphibifae.
*These amphibifae can have any number of common and uncommon traits.
*Free Amphibifae can not have two tails.
*Free Amphibifae can have your choice of 1 epic trait, 1 rare+1 limited, or 2 Limited traits.

-The color palette of an amphibifae can be quite vivid. Skin hues include orange, yellow, green, and blue. Purples will be more cool/bluish. Red amphibifae are rare* and will be muted or browned. Pink is epic* as it is a mutation of red. Skin color is usually unsaturated and will be a different value from patterns/markings.
***Black, white, bright red, and gray are unnatural and are reserved for amphibifae I make and/or sell.

-Amphibifae can have many types of patterns on their bodies. Most commonly, it's splotchy like the model's. I didn't mandate any specific patterns so that people can be to make patterns outside of the... maybe 5 that I could illustrate for this. Marking colors can be bright, but if so, they MUST be analogous to the skin color, and MUST be lighter or darker in value than the skin color. Up to 2 colors can be used in a pattern.
***unnatural patterns (i.e. jaguar/cheetah, perfect squares/rectangles, hearts, stars, clean shapes, or anything too weird) are reserved for amphibifae I make and/or sell.

-Amphibifae prefer not to wear clothes as they would stick to their skin and be uncomfortable. Belts, sashes, necklaces, bracelets, rings, and hats are tolerable.

-The way I draw eyes is not the canon of amphibifae eyes, but they are very large. Eyes may any color except bright/saturated red and white, which are unnatural, and are reserved for amphibifae I make and/or sell. Eye pupils are always either white or a hue used somewhere else on the body, and shall be a lighter tone than the iris.

Any Amphibifae art is welcome to the official group!
