I can't believe I'm finally posting this. I've been working so hard on this it's not even funny. This is some of my best work hands down. A year ago if you told me I would sketch this- I would've told you that you're tripping balls. I've sketched some great things but the reason I'm so happy about this is because I made the choice to step out of my comfort zone and use colored pencils in a way I was never very good at. But to those asking "what is this thing?" Let me explain. This is the Mark 13. It's from the movie Hardware, one of my favorite movies to watch while I kick back eat some pizza and enjoy. The movie takes place in a dystopian future where there's extreme poverty, high levels of radiation and pollution. A scrapper is walking through a desert unearths remains of a machine. Thinking it could be worth something he gathers the pieces and sells them back in the city to a soldier who then gives the remains to his girlfriend for Christmas (his girlfriend is a welder and makes sculptures). The head of the machine wakes up and begins reassembling itself with the power tools in the girl's home. Once it's complete it goes on a bloody gory rampage. It's discovered that the robot is a prototype cyborg called the Mark 13. For those who don't know- Mark 13 is the revelation in the bible that pertains to the apocalypse. The Mark 13 protocol is the government approved solution to the problem of overpopulation. Meant to indiscriminately kill anyone when numbers start rising. But the Mark 13 isn't like the terminator. Imagine putting the brain of Michael Myers into a robot and there you have it. Hardware is like The Terminator meets The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. It's got it's flaws but I still love it and I'm really proud of how this sketch turned out. Thoughts?
