Description
Built for the 1958 International Exhibition in Brussels, Belgium, the Atomium is a unique combination of sculpture and architecture. It is meant to symbolize an iron atom magnified 150 thousand million times. The entire structure is 102 metres tall, with each sphere measuring 18 metres in width. Inside, I believe there is a museum and other tourist attractions, but I have never been in there myself.

It has recently been renovated to replaced its previously rather tarnished spheres with bright shiney stainless steel. You can see a photograph of mine taken during the renovations here .
