Description So Blue Devils B and Santa Clara Vanguard Cadets both got new uniforms this year, and I must admit, I was somewhat...disappointed. BDB's is rather plain compared to its previous iteration, and SCVC's has double stripes everywhere and looks almost entirely white. So, my host family friend from last year and I got to contemplating what BDB and SCVC should look like.

The first three designs are Blue Devils colors. The first one is my BDB redesign, based on this year's uniform (and the butt cape from BD, of course). The second and third were based on BDC.

The fourth design is my redo of SCVC. I gave them more red, since red's one of Vanguard's colors. I made the double stripes single stripes, since I think one bigger stripe has more impact than two thin ones.

The fifth and sixth are just more traditional designs, and I made them my elementary school colors.

The last three are concepts for my sister's high school. Two of the three have navy pants, since I've heard all to often the kids from high school complain about the white pants. I prefer white pants aesthetically, since they contrast well with the green grass and the black asphalt, but I agree, they're a pain in the ass to clean!

Uniforms for instrumentalists are almost always consistent--it's the guard that has the problem with inconsistency. :c I swear, each year for me in guard the uniforms digress.

I like that color guard uniforms often change to match a show theme! It's pretty neat. But, it's a little weird when the "show theme" uniforms are used in school-related events like football games or used in parades.

Which is why I really liked the Blue Devils B 2011 guard uniforms - they had accessories to make them look like they didn't go with the corps and such, but the actual bodysuit thing matched the corps very well and looked sharp in photos and the few parades we were in.

The Blue Devils' uniforms with the half-skirts were my band teacher's inspiration for the form of our uniforms haha

Not a bad inspiration though.

No, not bad at all! And our uniforms look very cool, in my opinion at least. I've only posted one picture of it though.

The uniform starting from the left in fourth reminds me so much of American Fork's uniform. God blass them and their awesomeness! They deserved 1st place at BOA.

the fourth from the left, that's the hat I have, and it's so annoying because if you aren't careful you'lll get what we call "feathered"
luckily we take them out after halftime

In college, we have shakos and some people like to snag each other's plumes at times.

our school had shakos about 3 years ago, but now we have the other hats, which I kinda like better

Aussies do look pretty snazzy, but I've never worn one myself. Just "helmets" (like Phantom Regiment and Bluecoats) and shakos.

These are all really cool! I especially like the first three blue ones; they kinda remind me of our neighbor school's uniforms. Blue is just a great color period. I like the swirly on the third one! Not too jealous though; I like the black and gold of our uniforms....
Nice job!

I love the first and third ones. ^^ They would almost work for my high school, since our colours are Carolina blue, black, and silver. XD Our current uniforms are almost entirely back, with Carolina blue and silver accent-y stuff, and they're over a decade old. I almost passed out in mid-parade from the heat this past Memorial Day. x.x

Thanks!

You guys should fundraise for new ones! It'd take a lot of effort, but it might be worth it to refresh your image (and maybe get materials that are less likely to give you heatstroke!).

Black uniforms do suck though - in BDB, since our pants and shoes were all black, my toes would burn up if we ever had to march in the high sun in uniform. >_< College isn't too bad since we march dark colors in the evening, though, and high school wasn't too bad since they were almost all white!

Tigrrrlily2000 In reply to ShutUpSprinkles [2012-07-30 04:57:23 +0000 UTC]

We really should, but mostly we fundraise to fix uniforms and instruments., and so we can go on trips. My senior year, we're going to either Disney Land or World. ^^ Last year, we didn't go on an end of the year trip, since we went to DC. My freshman year, we went to Hershey Park. This year, we're either going to Hershey Park, Dorney Park, or maybe Boston or something.

Ah, it's the same with me. Black bandos, black socks, black pants, black jacket with the school emblem on the left sleeve, black-on-one-side-silver-on-the-other waist-length cape-thing on the right shoulder, Carolina blue and silver sequinned sash from the right shoulder to the left waist, silver helmet (I HATE trying to get all of my giant, fluffy hair into it.), black feathered mohawk plume, and usually black gauntlets with blue and silver sequins on one edge, but last year we didn't have to deal with them. ^^ We're from the mountains of northeastern PA, so we're used to snow in October, but we went to DC to represent PA in the National Memorial Day parade. It was over 100 degrees out, and we marched in full uniform down Constitution Avenue. I had to drop out of formation because I almost passed out. >.< I didn't really screw up the parade block, though, since I was the flute in the back row with a piccolo on either side of me, so when I dropped out it looked like the two piccolos were the only ones in the back row.

That sixth one looks exactly like my high schools uniform if you switch the white to the top instead of the black
These are all amazing!

I'm sad. I aged out the year before BDB finally got new uniforms. I, quite literally, live 5 minutes from their practice field, and I marched BDB 2 years (well... until finances got the best of me and made me drop sadface).

I really like your uniform designs though, especially the first two BD ones.

Aw, that kinda stinks that you didn't get to march the new unis, but you still got to march a couple years. I live about 3.5 hours away from Mars, and I only marched last year. It was great, but drum corps takes so much time away from the other things I love doing too. I'm considering marching age-out though, but that's not for another three years.

Thanks though! :]

Oh yeah? What did you march? I was on baritone. The guys with the sousas were intense! I... aged out either last year or the year before. I can't remember. lol I do want to join the Renegades all-ages corps once I come back to Cali for my Master's degree.

Mellophone. The December workshop was the first time I really picked up a mellophone and tried to play it, but I ended up being the first 2nd mello, and didn't get cut on any parts.

One of my friends marched Renegades last year, and I think she had a good time (even if she was like the youngest one there). We saw a handful of Renegades guys she knew at Comic-Con too, since it was the same weekend as the SoCal shows. xD

I had never touched a baritone before first day of practice. Lol. I'm a trombonist. They tried to teach me treble clef bari. That didn't end well at all!

Ooh yeah~ Okay, now I'm jealous you've been to comic-con! But yeah, the Renegades guys are awesome. My mother marched BDB and knows a few of the now-Renegades from her BD days. It's strange how small the drum corps world is.

I'm a flute player, so it was a totally different experience for me (except for reading the music). One of the BDB brass staff members was also a tech at my high school, so he gave me mello lessons during the winter and spring which was SUPER helpful. I dunno how I would've done it all on my own.

It really is a small world! Although I'm surprised at times how many regular band kids don't know much about it. My sister was at music camp and they did a game where you had to name off as much as you knew about some musical subject, and one was drum corps. My sister was the only one that could name off more than one thing. xD
