Description
While I had a though time reading Marion Zimmer Bradley's The Mists of Avalon, I'm ultimately glad I did. It's an extensive and well thought-out take on the rise and fall of King Arthur's reign from the perspective of the many women surrounding him; particularly his half-sister Morgaine, or Morgan le Fay. It considers the classic legend from a more sociocultural point of view, with the central conflict stemming from the old Celtic religion and culture slowly giving way to Christianity. While I do like me some knightly adventures every once in a while, this was a refreshing change of perspective. Also, Morgause is a bitch.
