Description
The queen loves all her children...save one: her successor. For to a queen, any other queen, whether kin or not, means one thing: competition.Lest the mother kills the child, the new queen is therefore removed from the mother hive as quickly as possible. A small escort of workers is given to her, to nurture and care for her until she is fit to rule and expand the new hive.
Most queens never meet their parent, which - given their naturally aggressive territorial behaviour - is a good thing.Β The pheromone mix alone - familiar, yet different - is enough to make most queens fly into a minor frenzy.

I am no sure but I think that I have found a little contradiction respect the history of the "initiation test" of the changeling queens. So while in this pic: siansaar.deviantart.com/art/Ch⦠you say that if a "new queen" achieves to fullfil her objective to dry all the love of other creature she will return to her original hive and take the post of her mother as the new queen (but she only returns after the old queen has dead or after to kill her? or in reality the old queen takes the decission to commit suicide and so let the way clear for the her daughter?) of the hive. However in this pic I understand that the new queen never returns to the original hive (as in the case of Miasma) and in exchange she founds a new one in another place with the changelings which nurtured and cared for her during her "infancy" and with her own offspring.
So both are true? It is said are two possible options that have the new queen whn they are finally prepare to rule?

And now I take the advantange to ask another question related to the changeings: in your headcanon how long could be the life span of a "normal" changeling? The same as a pony?

Honestly can't make up my mind.Β I'm tempted to say maybe a bit longer. Queens definitely longer, maybe twice as long?Β Problem is we don't know how long ponies DO live.

You've mentioned that Queens sometimes fail their love-gathering mission, but don't necessarily die. Is it possible for two queens to be sisters, then? And if they were, would they react in the same way as a mother queen to a daughter?

Good question! I figure they might not be *quite* as adverse, but it's probably up to the individual. For example, I can't see Miasma reacting very well to either relation. But on the other hand I figure if two sister queens meet, they already have established hives so they wouldn't compete beyond "normal" changeling rivalry, whereas a queen born into her mother's hive triggers an automatic fear that because of a lack of her own hive the new one would overtake the old one.

The reason I ask is because as we saw with your "Next Gen" queens, Changeling queens often seem to have similar color schemes to their parents. And since Calliphora (who failed her mission at first) is older than Miasma (who she seemed to relish messing with), and shares a color scheme with Lacera (whose form she apparently knows), I began to wonder who Calliphora's mother is.
Of course, Miasma looks almost nothing like her mother, so it may have been coincidence that the daughters seemed to share color schemes.

Ahh, right. Well Lacera definitely isn't Calliphora's mother. When I design the daughters (or mothers) I always go for a small colour shift. Purple becomes more pink (Miasma), red more orange (Calliphora), green towards yellow (Ambrosia) etc.
(Not sure where you take "shared colour scheme" from when it comes to Calliphora and Lacera...one's red and the other purple?)

It's not really important. Miasma's was because she actually interacted with her daughter, but I don't think the others would appear in their daughters' lives.

Eventually I'll have to ask my fiancΓ© to pick a queen, and I'll draw his changeling oc serving under her. (This is a bit of a spoiler because I plan to do a series of comics of how my oc and his oc meet. Basically he follows her around as different ponies, and eventually towards the end she falls for him so he starts snacking on her love for him lol. )
I also plan to make my cat, Chomper, into a changeling oc that prefers to stay as a cat form. Honestly, he gives love bites all the time when he loves on anybody so I figured it suited him.Β
