I need to learn to do bracket work. I've been wanting to try HDR myself but just haven't found a good situation or starting point.

Just start bracketing any scene that has a lot of different lighting in it. Make sure to hold the camera very still while you do. Preferably use a motor drive or a tripod. Bracketing is awesome...
