Every year in February we travel to the coast with some friends. The place is 5 hours from here. We always stay for a week and clear our heads from the routine.

About 3 kilometers from the house where we usually stay, there is a forest. The forest is part of a nature reserve that extends a few kilometers near the shore. It's a place that's far enough away that my friends don't want to walk to it, so I go alone at night, when you don't have to dodge people and their umbrellas.

The path to the forest is enjoyable. If you go along the shores, the noise of the sea accompanies you throughout the journey. No one seems to be out at night. There is only you, the dunes, the sea, and the wind.

When you reach the forest and enter it, your sense of sight diminishes. The darkness is only weakly combated by the lunar light that filters through the less dense sectors of the tall foliage of the trees. Your senses of smell and hearing become sharper. You can smell the wet earth, the different types of trees, and you can hear the sound of branches, insects, the wind, and your footsteps more intensely.

I never feel as alive as when February rolls around, and I spend a few hours after midnight in that beautiful place.
